Tyvek skin on foam?

In the course of looking for suppliers of tyvek I have come across a link from Dupont that tells me way more than I need to know but here is some of what it says about glueing tyvek;

A number of adhesives can be used to glue Tyvek®, either to itself or to other substrates. In general, water-based adhesives that provide quick tack and fast drying are preferred. The first step in choosing an adhesive is to determine how it will react with Tyvek®. Laboratory testing is the best way to make this determination. Table V on page 34 contains a list of solvents that are preferred in adhesives.
Natural-product adhesives based on starch, dextrin, casein or animal by-products are preferred to synthetic-based adhesives. Hot animal glue is an excellent adhesive for adhering Tyvek® to paperboard.
Water-based synthetic adhesives bond Tyvek® to itself and to a variety of substrates. Ethylene/ vinyl acetate adhesives and the acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives work well with Tyvek®.

I used some synthetic blend cloth in my foam kayak skin, it is blistering badly,while the rest of the skin is solid. I would expect tyvek to be similar as it is not permiable by water. I think you want fibers that allow the glue and paint into their strands for best results.
I also believe you may have issues with paint adhesion to tyvek for the same reasons.
PMF works because the paint becomes a composite with the fabric, not a skin over it, like it does with wood. I expect the paint will scrape off easily.
This is all just my opinion based on a little experience.

For those wanting MORE skin strength , it would seem an underlayment of Tyvek , then a canvas skin over that would be a tough yet still resilient surface ... allowing that “self-healing “ thing that foam does ... Naturally the canvas would shrink tighter over the Tyvek , creating the “sock effect “ ... Just more to test ...

Can you tell me what PMF stands for?
I have had similar thoughts about whether paint would stick as well to tyvek. The tyvek really doesn't have any tooth like you say.

I have read so much on this forum but I may have missed what the preferred skin method is. If I remember correctly it was foam with titebond2 brushed or rolled on then canvas over that then titebond brushed over that, after it had dried. Then gripper. Or is gripper okay as a substitute for the titebond 2?
And of course more layers of canvas and glue in high stress points like corner seams and edges.

Don , from our humble experience , Canvas over foam adhered with TB2 seems to work the Best ... And it’s best to allow for a little shrinkage as the canvas dries too ... once all good and dry then the Gripper or some other good WB (water based) primer , before painting with Exterior latex paint ... That makes a strong durable finish that allows easy maintenance and repairs if necessary as the combination tends to heal itself of small dents and bumps .... Well tested ... PMF ...

On the inside of the trailer , you can use anything you like , paneling , chipboard , Kraft paper , bedsheets , or canvas ... What You want ...

Hi All,

Well I have been reading more and considering what to do and I think I have nixed the tyvek for 2 reasons. One, it is slick and might let go of the primer and two, it may not have the strength needed to hold things together at the seams and where it attaches to the floor of the trailer. Well, three it doesn't shrink and may not give the sock effect.

I plan to build a standie so I need the walls to be about 6' high or so, so since it has a little more weight i think I need to consider how it is attached to the floor and frame of the trailer. It'll be a canned ham design of sorts.

Oh, I should have mentioned that the walls will have some kind of interior partitions/cabinet/ bed frame structures to help keep the walls rigid and also help keep them stout.
I used to be a carpenter and cabinet maker so I feel confident that I can make this work, in a structural sense.
