Back to this .... now , the wife has been making noises about a “Standy” ... which is everything I Don’t want to deal with ... Just thinking it has to be short enough to fit in the Garage .... can’t do that with a Standy' ...
Guess I’ll have to try to talk her out of that idea ... Nothing like the wife’s opinion to throw a Monkey Wrench into the plans .... :NC

how about somewhere in the middle grounds, like a stoopy/slouchy? not quite a standy, but not a complete low rider either. makes all happy. i think that is the way i am going to go with the second one. i know i am going to change my shape.

Eagle , that does sound like the best idea  ..... Have to measure the garage door opening , and see what fits ...

I should have saved some of that Oak tree and used the wood for my floor runners .... "my bad" for not thinking about that ...
Measured the garage door ... 80” tall X 96” wide... My little Foamie is 71” tall (from the ground) excluding the vent ... so can’t go much more ... still planning on a 3” thick roof ...
Could go with a Lower trailer ... but I just got this one for Free...

Low and wide seems the only way (for me) ... I see “carry on” trailers are pretty low ... Just don’t have one ... yet ...

Besides 4’ tall inside is really plenty of overhead room for a “sleeper” ... 5’ tall and you can comfortably sit upright in a normal folding chair ... That’s Nice !!! Camped many times in the old days in the back of a converted Van ... plenty of room ... Low and Wide !

Well, standard garage door height is about 7'. Not sure about a carry on but a HF trailer is 20-1/2" to the top of the deck. 25-1/2" to the top of the fender, according to the manual.

If you have a 5' wall, a 1" floor (?) and a 3" roof, if the roof is sitting on top of the wall (to give you a full 5' inside) you're looking at about 1/2" over the 7' mark from the top of the deck. Plus the thickness of your roof skin. Which, if you're using canvas and paint you're probably looking at 1/8" to 1/4" by the time you're done.

If you have an 8' high garage door, which is also considered somewhat standard, then it shouldn't be an issue.

Well , as previously mentioned Studio/Garage door is only 80” tall ... Not standard , so I can’t really come in over 79” tall just for a wee bit of clearance... You see my dilemma .. That complicated by the 2” thick Oak runners that the 1” thick cedar floor boards will be attached to (old timer style , and No plywood .. bolted to the trailer frame ...
Measured , my homemade Freebie trailer frame height is 20” so subtracting the 6” of floor and roof heights combined , leaves me with 53” Max height inside ... That’s not so bad ... Being Wider will make it feel so much more Roomy, less claustrophobic ... Light colors help too ...

I might be able to cheat a couple more inches with those smaller tires/rims the kiddies are using on their cars ... ??? Schmybe’ , but I think they’re expensive ... I dunno’ ...

Well, does it only need to fit in the garage while it's being built, or all the time?

If it's the former, you can build the camper itself and then mount it to the trailer once it's out of the garage.

If it's the former, you could still build the camper in such a way as to make it removable. Get a couple of those moving dolley things from Harbor Freight to move it around.

That would give you most of the 79" to work with.

TJ, being a Foamie , it will mostly sit outside ... BUT , during our last “storm” (Hurricane) , I felt it was prudent to bring it inside , lest a tree fall on it , as one did on my house ... :o Foamies are TOUGH , just sitting outside (tested and proven), but not tough enough for 80’ trees and 100mph + winds.. :frightened: Nice to be able to bring it inside , when needed ...

Understood.

Obviously this is something you're going to have to figure out with the misses. See if there is some room for compromise in what she wants.

Nobody knows her like you do so I have no thoughts on that one way or another other than just a general rule of thumb that I tend to go by with such things.

That being that if the significant other isn't happen ain't nobody happy. Hence, I'm still working on other designs, lol.

TJ, like most wives (apologies Ladies !!! ) who have never built anything , they always want the “impossible” and I’m left trying to figure it out and make it happen .. Then when it’s done , they find something else to complain about ... :? All during the construction of my little Foamie , they wife said nary a word... She gets in it and then pronounces “ You know how claustrophobic I am ? “ :o After 40 years , I NEVER knew that ...  :NC
We only Think we know them , and then , that’s subject to Change at will ... :frightened:

Comes down to whatever I build , I will “try” to accommodate "Her Worship” , well knowing it will never be perfect, depending on which time of day it is ... :R

Sigh !!! I think I am too , since the FoamStream is being re-considered yet again ... :o The "dear wife" does not favor the shorter trailer ... Guess it will be fine Outside , save the occasional Hurricane , where it will be towed away from danger , us in it ... and she’d better not complain ... Grrrrr!!!! :NC
