Thanks KC , I never knew any of that ... We’ll just use the SS screws as you say ...

Here’s a pic of how the other side window skin cut is made to overlap the previous spaces ... like a puzzle , eh ...

And everything glued ... Talk about Thick canvas ... I had to use pliers to push those extremely sharp blow gun darts through two layers ... :o

GPW,
Thanks for all the pictures !
I'm learning a lot from your build. I will definitely be using some of your techniques.

Have you figured out how you are going to seal your windows yet ?
I've looked for Butyl Tape locally, and haven't found it yet.

Tac, glad it helps !!! Still no idea for sealing them yet .. :NC

Now here ’s the real beauty of using T2 and canvas ... We were able to iron down (just our little hobby iron ) all the seams so they are very flat and barely discernible ... The T2 softens with heat and fuses the edges, threads, etc. all together ... 8) :D They should be fairly invisible under the paint ... You can see the edges , but you can’t feel them ... ;)

Here’s the door ready for paint ... glad to get that out of the way .... tedious ... :duh:

After the paint dries , we can install the window , lock , hinges, kick plate and sweep ... still lots more to do ... :o

Ps, the window fits Very snugly ... still thinking we need a sealant though ...

You are doing such a fine job, I cant afford windows right now and if I take this to CRA I am going to put up a piece of plexie and put a wood trim around it and go. I saw your windows in your album I can do something like that but will have to do it later. check out my build.

Mary , windows can really run up in the bucks with trim rings extra, and then the shipping ... :frightened: It took me quite a while to convince the wife she should buy those ... :o
Question is , do you need windows ... yet? Tents don’t have windows , just a screened opening ... My Foamie #1 only has one window , and a door peep hole thingie' on the other side ... works !!! You can Always add windows later ... Probably better too , cause’ you get extra time to think about where they should really go ...

Just a quick note on the SS screws. Even in aluminum yachts, SS fasteners are the norm. For threaded fasteners, there's a product called TefGel that's made to be an anti-seize between aluminum and SS. If you're using self tapping screws (more likely) then call around to find some AluCut - it's cheap and it's indispensable for running screws into aluminum. It's waxy stick that will lube the screw as it cuts into the metal to keep the heads from snapping off - welding shops or any decent building supply (prob not the Big Orange Box) will have it.
SS screws are bad for that because SS is so 'springy'.

If you're still looking for a sealant for those windows, SikaFlex is worth every penny.

Your build is looking great
It's great to be able follow someone else's progress while I'm sidelined on mine, so thanks for posting it.

There is a hole in the door so I have to cover it with something for CRA When I get back I will make my own windows.

Looking real good!
Maybe I missed it somewhere, but on the front foam, it looks like some is still sticking out, not smooth. Is there a reason for that?

Yes ... the Great stuff keeps expanding ... :o We’ll touch that up before covering over it ... or it just might make a great place for a marker light  ... I’ve got a few LED ones left over from the Wooden TD build ... If we can’t cover over it smoothly , we’ll just disguise it ... Periscope would be Nice eh ?

Cutting the reinforcing strips now from scrap canvas ...

Hehe, shoulda been more clear I guess...
I'm thinking of their marine sealants: LOT291 is used pretty well everywhere on a boat, especially to glue in windows.
Should be around $15 or so for a standard 10 oz tube. 2 tubes ought to be more than enough.
Bear in mind that the windows will be permanent - you'll have to cut them out if they get hit by bears or frozen turkeys.
But they won't leak !

Cut the first window hole , and right over a rib ...

Phew! Good thing it's not a bright-finished plywood side, eh ?
Or maybe a varnished cedar strip panel ?
Foam was made for TLAR...

Might consider poking some of those blow darts thru at each corner then checking the far side before cutting.

Hind sight is 20/20, eh?
