Can you guess what I did today ???

My buddy G’ came over , and we repacked and checked out the bearings and suspension , on this trailer ... Apparently somebody had recently changed out the bearings , races and seals , and everything was nice and tight ...Clean on the inside , Filthy on the outside ... Cleaned all the parts in this stuff we got at WM , odorless paint thinner , that looked like milk , worked like soap , but cleaned the parts just fine ... Weird... thought I was getting Mineral Spirits ... :o And the tires Fit just fine ... not only that, now I have about 2” of clearance , and he had me go inside and jump up and down (225#) and said there was barely any deflection of the springs , and I should be Ok with that , or could add “lift blocks” If they rubbed ... So we hooked it up to the truck and pulled it up the driveway (350') it’s first trip .. :D Feels pretty light back there, and I can move it around the gravel driveway by myself with the dolly , so it’s not ridiculously heavy ... and the wheels really look MUCH Better than the old dogs 8) ...even got the “bras” for the buddy bearings ...

Coming along ... sweaty baby steps ...

I’m starting to understand about KC talking about losing track of the days ... Every day is just another “build" day ... Eat, sleep ,trailer... :o Getting closer all the time , yet the finish seems so far away ... so many little details to attend to... so many things yet to do !!! Boggles the mind !!! :?
Fun though , keeping Busy (retired) ... :D Guess once it’s finished , I’ll be Bored ... Maybe have to start a new Foamie’ build ...something a bit shorter ...
Plan for today was to cover an upper panel ... looks like Rain (again) ... I dunno’.... :NC The other thing is to CLEAN up the Studio ... It’s Band night tonight , the place is a total MESS ... :frightened:

Ps. Learned that if I plan to build a taller Foamie in the future , we’ll have to invest in a real scaffold ... or two ... It’s difficult , if not Dangerous to work the top of the trailer on shaky ladders (not as young and daring as I used to be )... Thinking.... since I face the eventuality of painting the inside of the house , in which scaffolding IS required, maybe I’ll just get a scaffold NOW to help with this build ... and be Ready for .....later... ;) Just thinking SAFETY !!!

Last time I needed a scaffold, I think I paid about $8/day per stage to rent it and that included the platforms, casters, etc.
If you're working off of it for a living that's one thing but buying it is a waste of money for how often a homeowner would typically use it.
JMHO of course.

W2, you have a very good point !!! Right now I’m trying to borrow one ... checking with friends... May have to resort to renting ... that is a good and Thrifty idea in the long run eh ...

Called around , found a place locally that rents scaffolds ... $40/week/per level ... That’s not so bad ...

You could rent a week for the foamie, a week or two for house painting & still pay less than buying any. We're in the middle of nowhere but there's a rental place just 10-15 min away. I'm storing this idea for my trailer build.

I know this might be a lot of work for someone who does not know what that is but a friend of mine built one out of wood just made with 2x4s.

JMHO Mary, but there are all kinds of injuries every year from homebuilt staging. The building of it is the easy part - engineering a safe work platform is a bit trickier. Some things are better left to the pros. Besides, it would take a lot of rentals to pay for the materials to build one.

Across the Pacific they build scaffolding out of bamboo.

Surely, the climate in NOLA grows some pretty good bamboo. Might save a few dinero.

Then again, I'd probably spend the $ to rent scaffolding.

There is some nice bamboo down that way. But it sure would take a while to do all those lashings properly.

For shortish scaffolding, not over one floor building yourself would probably not be a hard engineering job. Just triangle things so it doesn't fold up on you. Corner post of the best 2x4 you got. 3/8 grade 5 bolts to hold together. No Glue or nails. Screw on some floor boards. Some casters for when you are inside the house. When scaffolding is not needed. You have a mess of 2x4 for next project.

That is what I would do. Or at least think pretty strongly about. Don't think I would go over one floor. Oh wait. I probably would.

Menards has some heavy duty shelving rated for 2000lbs per shelf. I've been using it for scaffolding. The uprights come in 6' and 8' heights, and 18", 24", and 30" widths. The shelf support bars come in 4', 6', and 8' lengths. With 30" wide uprights, 3/4" plywood cut to the proper width to fit between the bars has worked nicely and has easily supported me and my dad at the same time. I've put casters on one pair of uprights. If you don't, it take two people to move a setup unit without dragging it. Even then you'll be tempted to drag them due to the weight and lack of good handholds.

This is the series: http://www.menards.com/main/building-ma ... c-9540.htm Others may handle them or similar.

When you're done using it as a scaffold, it can become a shop shelving unit.
