KC, Thanks .... Just getting Tired and worn out after all this .. My age is catching up with me ....everything is a struggle in this Heat ... Need to take more breaks ... :coffee:

Got the rear window in ... bit of a struggle ..my fits were just a little Tight ... :o Now that I got it in , am wondering if we should just seal around the installed window , or loosen it up and try to force some 3M 5200 under the rubber gasket thing too ?

I tried this with a small hypo and needle (veterinary supplies) and the glue was so thick it wouldn't come out. I'm on the fence about thinning the glue; after applying a thinned coat, then a full coat, on the underside of my floor I think the full strength coat worked better.

KC and GPW -

I used epoxy syringes to inject 3M 4200 adhesive sealant into all of the screw holes. The 3m sealant is much thicker (viscous?) than TB. I did cut a small part off of the curved tip which did increase the opening size slightly.

I bought them from Jamestown Distributors - http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=2096&familyName=Epoxy+Syringes. Similar products designed to administer liquid medication to animals also work well. You can get these at feedstores or pet supply stores.

Take care,

On all my doors I've installed 6 so far the rubber seal is all there is and none have ever leaked. I recommend just installing them as designed and run with it.

Gee, these windows are a real “sphere buster “ to install  The trim rings supplied are too shallow and the Frank the Bear’s “you can make it work” just ain’t happening ... Huge 1.5” gap between ring and window ....Looks NASTY !!! What The (your word here) ??? I’ll NEVER order these again ... in fact I’m almost ready to chuck these into the woods and just call it a bad experience... grrrrrrrr!!!! :x :x :x

Seems some pics and I'll tell you how to get them to work. The rings are for certain defined thickness and I had to shim every door I installed

I don't know about trailers so much but in boats it's pretty common to have a gap between the trim ring and the flange extrusion. Line the opening with a strip of roll flashing (paintable) or a strip of wood veneer, then put the window in. When you're done it'll look like it belongs there. In your case, even a strip of canvas painted the interior color would work great. I'll see if I can dig up a pic for you, though it'll be a scan of a 35mm print.
Will the trim ring work better if you flip it around to increase the clamping distance ?
Also, you can dress up those exposed screw threads with a bit of brass tubing or even black heat shrink.

That's what makes those windows adapt to any wall thickness - it's a blessing, not a curse !!

W2, the 3.25” trim rings he advertised , but was out of  would have been Perfect , Nice and Neat ... maybe it’s just me , but I hate when things don’t fit right and you have to “X rig it “ We used to install windows in Vans all the time .... they all fit straight away ... :R

Fought with the windows , but eventually we got them in ... 8) (maybe a bit crooked , had the wife make sure they were straight while I tightened the screws , a sure sign they must be crooked :R ) Added the rubber weather stripping to the door stops ...

End of the day , all dried in .... finally !!!

Tomorrow , we tackle the bubble on the other side :frightened: ... I was thinking of opening the seam above the window and just spreading some T2 around... Skin surgery ... and only on one side ...

Looks great from this perspective!

:)

I like the idea of flashing to provide the lip I'm short.
Seems I learn something no matter where I read here.

Thanks WW.

GPW,

This maybe a bit 'fiddly', but how about using some of the 1/4inch thick
poster paper veneered foamboard as infill ? Use a razor knife to cut strips
to size. It'd be thrifty, use your RC plane building experience and they
are paper and foam - a couple of your favorite materials. Just kerf the
back of the strips to go in the corner radii. If 1/4inch isn't thick enough,
[the pics look like that may be the case] then do double strip applications
to build it up - you should be able to cover the screws that way too by
'dadoing' out the foam areas where they are, and the remaining paper can
cover over them. Then, a bit of TB and paint to water proof.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

This little door closing mechanism... I hope it is temporary. Otherwise, you might find yourself trapped some day.

Good Morning Mr. and Mrs. America , and all the ships at sea!!! :D

First off, sorry about all the whining about the windows ... Must have been the Heat that had me boggled ... They’re just windows eh ... ;)

Thanks for all the comments !!! Dried in now makes me feel Much Better ... That huge tarp was a giant PIA to deal with ... Those of you with a garage or shop to build in may count yourself most Fortunate ... Building Outside is “challenging” on the body and the mind. ... :frightened:

Norm, we’ll figure it out later on when we do the interior ... It’s not as bad as it first looked , probably better when it’s all sealed ...

Cliff , door tab IS only a temporary till we get the door lock in (soon)

Today is the skin surgery , and hopefully more painting .... No rain predicted ( a miracle) so hoping we can get a lot done ...
Just an observation ... the skin only bubbles up after sitting in the Heat ... at night it tightens up ... weird huh ? Well, the bubbling only seems to be around the bottom seam , it looks like we’ll be able to slide a putty knife under the seam and separate it enough to peel it back a bit and brush some T2 in the offending area, then press it all back down ... That “should” do it ... Schmaybe’ ?
With the T2 attached skin we have no problems ... with the Gripper we have that long bubble (s) ... grrrrrrr!!! Therefore we will not be using the Gripper any more to attach the skin.. ever !!!  It is a great primer , but I don’t know if it’s better than other primers that cost a bit less... It was an interesting experiment ... the odd thing is it worked great in some places and not in other areas ... no idea why that happens... :NC
Will take some pics as we proceed .. Foamies' are supposed to be simple to repair and this should be fairly easy ... We’ll see eh ???

GPW, that truly is an inspiring sight! You got it Dried IN! HOORAY! :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

Don't sweat the windows... think of what the foamstream is for... b'gout in it and don't sweat the fiddly little detail... after all it is supposed to be thrifty and give you a comfortable space to while away the hours when you're waiting.

Once you fix the gripper bubble issue (I'm thinking there is moisture being released somewhere, that is trapped... it expands when heated, then is re-absorbed... just enough in that spot to create a bubble...) move on with your checklist... get that 2nd color on the bottom of the FS, and get to fitting out the interior!

Yes, what Ned said ^. Use binoculars not a magnifying glass, so to speak. :D (The echo of "details" and "project creep" ringing in my head from TPCE.)

Spend your energy on getting it water tight and ready to use, if need be.

It seems to me that you are spending an appropriate amount of time on the "small" details (there is a pun in there somewhere) to suit your stated goals (practical, thrifty, but larger and a little nicer for her worship), just don't get so wrapped up in the details that it changes your initial build goals and philosophy! Unless you have changed your mind on these things(?); in which case, have at it... but if you do that (sweat the details) you will have to clear an awfully large space in your living room to display it.

The window flange gap is an easy fix (you WILL find a simple solution), but do I understand your frustration.
