not sure much of anything is going to stop that bear if it wanted to get in.

not sure exactly what you mean about the hatch/canvas part. on my foamie i have the hatch covered in canvas, no cracks, still looks great and no leaks! (major plus) i will admit, when i first covered on that flip up part i was worried that it would crack also, but it has not. i covered right over my hinge. :wine:

With so many foamies on the road now and thousands and thousands of miles travelled , all that negativism is just mere erroneous speculation (BS) ... :R

Whoa, easy now, I was just kidding. I didn't make any comments about foamies other than they weren't really an option when I built mine. No need to get defensive.

BD , apologies for my somewhat snarky comment ... it was Early , pre coffee , and at that time of the morning , I’m likely to be a little curmudgeonly .. You know how Old people are without their coffee ... :frightened:

But put in better terms, it’s True huh !!! Foamies work , and for the indicated reasons and examples of the last several years of development and testing ... They offer the obvious benefit of lightness , which means you can ( and probably should) carry more camping gear /Beer. But also they can be Thriftily constructed , with a minimum of tools and by someone with few building skills , like a Big craft project ... and we now know they’re a Lot Tougher than even we first thought ... 8)

On the other hand , I’d love to build a Nice Exotic wooden TD if I had a real wood shop and the right tools , tables and areas , garage to keep it in .. and the right “Fun tickets” .... but I don’t ...

No problem, its pretty obvious that you're passionate about the foam. The only reason I commented at all is that I keep a (somewhat lazy) eye on the foamies. If I were to build all over again, I would most likely go down the road of a foamie hybrid. I'm pretty sure I could build a foam SIP with what I learned about vacuum bagging on the Boxcar.

Eagle , for years now , one of my favorites was Rob’s Cabin Car .... got that old woody retro look to it , plenty of room inside , a bathroom/mini shower... Just Cool to me 8) ... JMHO Would be so nice to own/build one ... not likely ... “ If wishes were Fishes”  Foam , I can handle , even at my age ...

Foamie' camping trailers are like Volkswagens ... "the People’s trailer".... for the people that can’t afford a Cadillac ... :R

BD with your displayed skills , I’d bet you’d come up with something really Great !!! 8) Hybrid to varying degree is the real and logical compromise  ... seems there will always be some little disagreement between the Foamie “purists” , and the Hybrid folks .... But that’s Cool , cause’ the wooden trailer folks won’t have anything to do with us anyway huh ....
I may be a little defensive , only from fending off those attacks of “you’re Stupid and that won’t work at all . “ I think it was mostly from the British ... :o

Vacuum bagging is so Cool huh !!! 8) ;)

I was talking more about the galley that is in the back that you see in all the wooden TD pics....I don't think I've seen a galley in the back of a foamie....??? I don't think I've seen a foamie where the hatch where the galley is actually opens up? That they are permanently attached? I'm sure I'm wrong....time to search for more foamie td pics....off I go!

So another question regarding the building of foamies has crossed my mind...and I am doing some searching on this subject too....

Canvas vs bed sheets. I would think sheets might have a smoother finish? (which I would prefer I think) perhaps easier to work with but getting them in larger sizes - other than king size - is impossible of course. Overall are canvas walls any stronger than bed sheets? Any thoughts on one vs the other would be helpful....

Hey Louella...I remember reading your thread a few days ago but I somehow missed your back hatch/galley area...do you have any albums? I can't find them...would love to see more pics of that back area, etc. very cool!

i don't have an album here. i just tried to upload a couple to photobucket but its not working very well right now. i'll try again. not too sure where some of my other pics might be, maybe in the huge thread. i'll try to find something for you.
but like i mentioned, i canvased right over the hinge on my hatch. coated it in tb2, pirmer and paint. no cracking or wear at all (yet).
