OK, so I may have a direction to head in. GPW, I think 15k was an awful lot for a trailer that's 14ft long with only 5.5 ft headroom. That's a good bit of length for the average Joe to stoop through. Would make towing easier though.

Now I need to think of what trailer I would build on. I know there are deals to be had. Are trailer like the Northern 5x8 #125692 worth the money? http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200356494 Or should I get a junked pop up camper instead? There is a place near me with ads on Craigslist for used camper trailers. Those are stripped down to trailer frame, no camper parts left. My concern is my lack of knowledge. Am afraid I won't be able to recognize junk or a money pit from a diamond in the rough. That has me leaning towards a new trailer like the Northern.

How much can one expand a 5x8 ft long trailer? Could it be expanded out to 7x12 ft or even stretched to 14 ft? My desire is for wood framing, avoiding welding. Though if I stretched the front by 2 feet onto the V of the trailer tongue I guess I'd need some tongue extension? I really know nothing about this stuff. Was just thinking that if the walls & that front wall partition were all done in foam there would be minimal added weight in the extended area, especially of the frame & interior were designed to compensate for this. Am I making sense?

Thanks to all for the input.

Talk me down

Work computer is running slow so as I wait for it to catch up I'm searching through images on the web. All the things I fall in love with are tiny. Though I don't want something so tiny it isn't going to serve my purposes, I think I need to downsize my ideas again. Chances are I'm not going to make the dream trailer first time around. Would hate to put a lot of time & effort into a larger trailer only to find... well, find it just isn't right.

We likely need more than just a 5x8 interior. If a 5x8 trailer can be built out to 6.5x10 using the something like the Take-It-Ez general profile then that would do us well for a few years. We're not likely to camp for more than a few days in a row. The whole point is to be outside, not hanging out in a camper. We just need enough space to sleep in comfort & not want to kill each other if stuck inside on a rainy day.

OK, so now I've got an extremely general idea of the profile & size. It would be a foamie & essentially just a shell at first. Will need to save shekels for a trailer & scrounge around for building materials. Luckily I already have a place to store some things. Unfortunately that is in the barn where lurks many... SPIDERS! Poor BF will have to get those off the supplies before a build. That is, of course, one of the prime reasons for having a man around the house.

That's the trailer I bought. A cheap, junky pop up frame would be good too but then, you have to strip it and get rid of the waste. [Dirty job, wear a dust mask]
