Seems only the cheap drop cloths have all these imperfections. anyway .. Spend a few coins on the good stuff , which if you catch it on Sale is even Cheaper than the drop cloths which only appear to be a bargain ... :o

Hmm, that diagonal weave might be a good thing for wrapping corners, kind of like bias tape. I wonder.

Both of these fabrics were from a specialist fabric store and pretty high quality but at $10 a broad loom (1.5 merers wide) meter is cheap for here.
There is a canvas store I can get some from but it's $25 a broad loom meter.
I'll try to take some pics for better explanation today but basicly the diagonal weave is raw cotton canvas but similar to the coloured canvas used by high end tent manufacturers

in other words, does this create a hole in the canvas?

No hole in the canvas but the individual threads that have been pulled may be severed by the sanding. This has no impact since the entire fabric has become one sheet of fabric/foam/PVA composite and can not unravel

Thank you Mr trout.
My build is neither conventional nor "foamie" but regardless every now and then I need to check I'm not crazy :)

Where I found imperfections in the canvas I put extra glue and sanded smooth then with gladden gripper it filled in the "holes" in the weave. If I had been a perfectionist I would have put on another coat of gripper.
