I thought of that for ice fishing. I thought of using the tear as an ice house.

It is really simple.
Just cut your door out with a router with long bit and a jig(many cuts) with the bottom slanted out and the front and top slanted back and down.
Cover the edges with canvas and glue.
Use polyurethane caulk and glue on a FRP(fiber reinforced plastic) flange on the inside of the wall and the out side of the door.
Use FRP plates under the hinges and latches also on the inside.
Then just bolt thru with t bolt on the inside for a smoother finish.
I would use two latches on the doors(a upper and lower) to make a tight seal. The lower one can be left open unless needed.

With a foam seal on the inside wall flange you should have a good low cost door.

JohnSw has an awning window in his Annex build at http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=59105&start=30. Screen on the inside opens in to allow the window to be manually opened or closed. A simple stick-like piece holds it in the open position. Worth a look, IMHO.

Nice. And the "oversize" glazing means you'll be able to leave 'em open in the rain and stay dry even if it's a bit breezy.

Bonnie , just thinking a screen door latch the locking kind with the spring and slider ... Simple , inexpensive , available most everywhere...

If you used Lexan for the windows , that’s stuff's bulletproof ... although somewhat pricy ... Outside pane would be easy ... and like you say , keep the rain off . The magnetic screen on the inside is easily removable and keeps the bugs out .. Round window cutout best supports all stress loads and needs no reinforcing ... just cut a hole ... You could even save the cut out as a plug ...for Winter storage or just privacy ...

For WET areas like ours , a good drip edge overhead works really well on most every door or window ... !!! On a Foamie , that’s easy ... made of foam ...

I was walking the other day down in Daytona, there's this old set of buildings down on the strip here that have been upgraded to look newer (and more shapely/colorful) over the years. Its not noticeable just on a glance, but on closer inspection, one realizes that all the new window ledges, awnings, exterior building decorations that were added, are nothing more than plaster over foam. Easy to spot in places where they've been damaged again over the years. Lots of the touristy looking shops on the strip here... and even the big water park / putt putt golf places.... underneath all those mountains, surfboards, colorful shapes... underneath that thin layer of plaster, it's just foam.

A lot of supposed very expensive crown moulding in very expensive new houses is just painted Foam ... I saw that ( next door ) and was floored by the prices ... the real wood moulding was just waaaay too expensive ... Foam is everywhere...

A lot of stucco houses are just foam with chicken wire applied over the top and then stucco.

Not so very different from what we make here ...decorative Seldom do you see foam used for “structure” , except when you need a light weight structure (like a camper) Maybe we can use some new Foamhome building tricks on our campers ? Or just invent our own as the need arises ...
