tinksdad wrote:My Bad!! Yes, after reading all the way through the long thread and all the spin-offs, foam is definitely the economical way of getting the size I need. In no way denigrating any body else's contributions, if it's good enough for Mike to attempt a standie, it's good enough for me. There's still a lot I need to re-read (and I can all ready see things that need tweaking in my design); but it looks do-able. Even though I am in one of those "M" states, no 2" foam available at the obvious sources. The search is afoot.

somewhere in the big thread i "think" it was talked about using 2 pieces of the 1" foam. you could probably just tape it on the sides to keep it together til it is glued and covered. i am not sure i would glue the 2 together only because of the expanding glue issue. that would make the 2 pieces space apart of each other. you could wrap with the canvas/t2/3 completely. then on the final stages of the skinning you would cover as normal. that would give you 2 layers of canvas. should be pretty strong. plus that would leave you with the inside already precanvassed. but please i am only speculating, so test first.

is a shame us foamies don't live closer to each other, we could order a palette of this stuff and share.

Any body checked how many sheets of foam is in a pallet?

Maybe we need to start smuggling the stuff south. a reverse Underground Railroad.

You'll have a zombie proof door! It's the extra canvas that does it, ya know.

Rat, so much covering now , it feels like plywood ... That and the wood edging makes it pretty STRONG ... Won't have to worry about the door eh !! :D

We need to specify the green foam. The grass hides the bits easier.

Off topic, about band and other community type of stuff

About 5 years back I almost had a small company talked into opening an office here that would bring about 40-60 high quality jobs into the area. The wife of the owner nailed the last nail into the coffin on that plan as she didn't like the lack of "culture" here. ( and they would not move here anyway ). All I could think was. "You stuck up %^*$#" rhymes with twitch. So what if we don't have a professional symphony, full time acting companies, dance. If you can't support the local schools, attend the community playhouse or even get off your couch and become an actor in the rather good local community play group we have, then just stay in Florida we don't need you.

:fb

Back to building now, rant mode off for the moment. Culture is where you make it.
