hehehe
i started out with the determination of making it "pretty", but i just can't get it to look right. there is a wierd bump at the top, some of the canvas can still be seen at the bottom hanging, its just too plain, and everything.

i'll get there maybe, to the point of pretty. :)

Gosh, while you have all this time waiting on your Lottery winnings, you could fix those little hanging bits , and throw some paint on it inside ... I think it's a Really COOL trailer , and ignore any imperfections that only you are critical of ... :D Either that or git' baking to finance Foamie (hybrid) #2

You know , being a Foamie (hybrid) it's not supposed to really look like those high$$$/ Mucho Labor Museum TDs that other most talented members make here ... It's a Foamie (hybrid) !!!!!! ;)

Eagle, remember yours was the first Foamie,

So i can just see it now, years in the future when your grand kids are grown up, they will take their grand kids to the National TD & TTT Museum to look round and will be so proud when they see their prize exhibit, stood there with its Mickey Door and special paint job and they will proudly say " Yes dear, Great Great Gandma did built the first ever Foamie way back in 2011, she even drove it over the windy bridge"

:applause:

And the kids, as they do, will ask questions however cutting they are, such as "When's she gonna finish it?" or "Whats the bump for?"

All you need is to make sure they is they say, "Its not unfinished, she was going for a classy Shabby Sheek look, you can pay thousands for that designer exposed brickwork look, and exposed foam is just the same and by the way, thats not a bump, its a feature"

 still have NOT driven over the nose bleed bridge though. i will avoid that at all costs. i found another route that parellels with that bridge, and its a flat shorter bridge. doesn't take me out of the way really. so i have no reason to EVER cross that bridge. :applause: the alternate route was shown to me on our way back from the last trip out, from one of the tearjerker gals.

Being an Artist , I can always invoke Marcel Duchamps , sign it ... immediately converting it to an object d'Art... instant 10,000 price tag ... understanding that the lion's share would go to the greedy art dealer who sold it ...
Eagle , sign it , tell everybody it's ART ...who's to argue ??? Art is merely an opinion right !!!
Mischief managed !!! :D

More boring pics of the "mattress" looking interior with reinforcing strips all done .... more in the album, should you care .... Image

BTW, It finally rained pretty good last night :worship: and although I'd taken no special precautions , there was not any water on the inside this morning  8) :D

You should TOTALLY sign it!

I never noticed (and still don't notice) the "bump" you pointed out. The feature is the mickey window and cool color.

I think the flaws are a lot like my kitchen floor. There's this one tile that's crooked (by couple of mm). I see it every time I go in there. No one else looks at the floor in my kitchen. They see a nice corion counter, the tile mural over the stove, etc... not that stupid tile!! LOL. We are perfectionists, aren't we, Eagle?? BTW, no one would see any of that right now. The house looks like Miriam's tornado went through it. I really hate housework!

Would a latex caulk mixed in with the paint or even a thinned out latex caulk work better than mud/paint mixture? I've used the mud/paint mixture on the walls in an old house we redid and when it was dry it seemed quite brittle. 4 young boys rough housing could crack it!!!!!!

It's standard TD size ...4'X4'X8' inside loses 4" to the foam making it 44" wide... 92" long , but 48" High inside ... Just big enough for two smaller (normal) people , or me ... :o

Mixed the "mud" with the paint and polymer , been pre-texturing the seams (edging really) seems to help hide things ... using the glue brush for the dabbing now , since it's long past Ruined... :o

J&M .. that should work ... just one old guy here and I don't kick ... You may want to try a small sample piece first ...

Rat , since the wife now has the power job and I'm retired, can you guess who gets to do the housework .. :o I hate it too, but rather that than the constant nagging and the leaving of notes (reminders)

Got the inside textured ... Next the inside paint ... Found out if I kept the door closed , it got HOT in there... :o once opened it cooled off rapidly .. 89F here right now , so it's Hot anyway ...

Funny , I mixed brown and white and came out with Purple :o Image

BTW, the streaks (water spotting) on the outer paint are gone ... :o Apparently washed off by the heavy rain ... Must have been something else causing the streaking ...

RE: Interior Painting/Texturing

Postby mezmo » Fri May 27, 2011 11:07 pm

Hi GPW,

I was going from my experience with the spackling compound
in the past it always seemed to crack, probably due to too much
thickness in application, no doubt.

Is the textured surface rough? I just thought that there was a
possibility for that, sandpapery, versus a smoother surface or if
it would be better to somehow flatten the tips of the points of paint&
compound - or aren't they that prominent? More M&M shaped vs Hersey
Kiss shape for the pounced paint points? [Sorry, couldn't resist the
alliteration.]

Please note I'm not criticizing, just curious as it is a method new to
me.

As soon as you mentioned your technique, I immediately thought
of "a pointillist TD interior!". Why not do a small homage to
Georges Seraut, in his style, somewhere on the inside?! Yeh, I know,
not as easy to do as suggesting it. I would imagine that technique to
be very time consuming! Maybe just decoupage a print of his
'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' somewhere
instead?

Purpleness aside, it does look to have done what you wanted it to do
in hiding the fabric pattern.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo
