Or maybe roller paint it white, bolt it to the chassis and go camping

There is an interesting site about using foam that might interest you as an artist. I can wait until someone makes a carved foamie.

http://www.industrialpolymers.com/product-list/styrospray-product-list/styrospray/

So come on finish that one and make a fully carved foamie that looks like a pirates locker or a mini VW campervan

These people have some great products and styrospray could work on a Foamie as it not only makes a hard surface but will bond sheets together

It's not really a heavy texture at all , sorta sandpapery , applied thinly .. It really doesn't Hide the seams , just makes them a little less obvious ... more like a thick primer.. I could have "ironed" the seams inside to make them a little flatter , but it was too Hot to be in there with an Iron too.. :o
Now in my book , brown and white makes light brown ... but purple ??? I like purple too , but this was unexpected...
Wolf , Have no idea what's in the rainwater... It's just gotta' be better than the city water... Even the plants don't like that ... Figure it must have been something else like tree bits , got blown on there (I do live in the deep woods) and with the morning dew just ran down the sides ... I dunno' , but it's mysteriously Gone now ...

Mez', pointillism takes "forever" , (been there done that ) So if we have an extra 4 months or so to paint the inside , I could paint the inside like Island of La Grande Teardrop... ;)

Cone , Painting it white would be the logical thing to do ... "Get it Done" !!! But it wouldn't match my cushions... nor does purple ..
And I don't think we've even scratched the surface yet as to adding a sculptural aspect to the trailers ... Easy as foam is to work , we could do any number of different looking trailers ... and that spray is nice for sculptures ... I'm sure they already use something like that for Mardi Gras floats ... (a local thing)
Now if I were to do a complex shape TD , with much carving , I think I'd just glass it on the outside , and endure the usual fiberglass finishing rituals ...
This TD is just the simplest build I could think of (trying to keep it that way ) ... because if it didn't work , it would have made a great doghouse...

You know , this could take TD to the "next level" .. Imagine a TD , just like any other , but beautifully rounded out on all the edges, "slippery" aerodynamics ... Difficult with wood... like making a canoe! Easy with Foam ... And then there's all that "Roswell" business , where most any shape could be easily carved from Foam ... Very difficult with wood or metal ... as we've seen here in the past ... :o
The Foamie is afoot!!!!

Eagle , seems there's a good many things you could use that foam for around the house ... not to get off topic of course.... again ...

i think it will be ok for us to go off topic in this big thread. but i would prefer most chatter in the other specific topic threads to stay on topic.

yes those possibilities are endless working with this foam. i seriously would like to check into that spray on stuff. sounds like it would be just as easy as painting. it does not appear to be toxic either. would give that smoothness also.

hold on, i have to go water the money tree.

5 years later , I know now how to build this one ... Image

Could be Big , long with "rooms"... full Galley in the back .. Light and easily towable for it's size Maybe simplify the doors a bit .. Just for ease of construction ...

is there anyway to tell how much weight it would hold up floating as I've found an interesting design that needs some more exploring

Off today to find a vent for the Foamie ... Read the vintage plans for ideas ... One possibility for the vent is an aluminum soffit vent and a hole near the top ... that would be INEXPENSIVE ... and "old school" http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R ... ogId=10053
The other is the traditional roof vent 14" X 14" which around here will be at least 30-40 bucks ... or more ...

Any ideas ???

hmm, i am all for using up my tent stuff here. so i could use the mesh from the tent. but to cover the hole from rain, could use a piece of vinyl and have it snap on/off?

but those vents from hd or lowes should work, but wouldn't you still need to cover from rain? how would that work?

If you want to go with Eagle's idea, You could easily build shrouds to cover screened openings. Shape some foam for the shroud. Cover it with packing tape or duct tape and lay your canvas/TB2 over it and let it dry. When dry, pop it off the mold and add foam to reinforce it where needed. It will then just bond on anywhere you want it to go.

Well, on the way back from HD this morning I stopped at the Topper World where I bought my camper top for my PUTruck .. They had one for 20 bucks ... Ventline top vent 14X14, the usual ... so I got it ... Although I'd seen these on Flea Bay , there was a hefty shipping charge too ... saved that ... then spent it on a Vietnamese Lunch next door ... :o

WDude, I was considering making one , but this was just too easy ... ;)
