Thrifty Alternatives ..Building Foam Campers

Canvas covered foamies (Thrifty Alternatives...)

Ok, so I wanted to clear out everything that I normally store in the TD and utilize the 16" x 60" steel grate area in the front of my tear. I wanted to store the chairs, my redneck lantern holder (about 48" long), stove in a bag, propane, the wooden shelf I made that attached over the fender and a few other items.

I looked and looked for a truck tool box that would fit there.. nothing. The closest I found was 12"x 12"x 60".

I didn't want to make a plywood box because, well, it gets expensive and then I'd have to seal the heck out of it so it didn't delaminate. Plus, plywood is on the heavy side.

I thought about making a foamie box, but I wanted to store volatiles (white gas) in it and thought that wouldn't mix well with foam.

I found a waterproof bag:
http://www.amazon.com/Rola-59102-Expand ... 364&sr=1-3

This bag fits my every need. Everything stuffed into it nicely.

Then I was thinking (ut oh, here it comes).... The bag is collapsible, perhaps I could put foam inside it to give it some support?

I'm still considering it, but haven't done it yet. I could also put a plywood bottom in it to make sure I don't poke a hole in the bottom.

Just rambling thoughts on a hot day.

Hugs,

Rat, that is a cool bag ... Light ... easy enough to make a corrugated cardboard liner ... Waterproof it with "the mixture" or even T2... or paint it ... no reaction with gas , no de-lamination , and Thrifty too ... need a stronger liner , just double up on the cardboard ... T2 sticks VERY well to porous cardboard ..

Hot here too, only 91 today (cold front) Actually rained last night here ... was a "gully washer" ... :o But we needed it ... 2 hours later , the ground was dry again ... soaked it up like a sponge ... :o

patricia, that is a cool looking bag! as gpw said that shouldn't be too hard to reinforce if needed.

the island has many bike trails!
although a new bill has just come up.

UGH! I hate it when new bills show up. I just had one show up from a doc I haven't been to in over 6 months. Now I have to call and see what's going on.

Hey Eagle

Last winter I got me a bike.

Beach 3

It is a pretty good sized one, 26 inch wheels, folds up and can go in my Suzuki Sidekick TV or in the TD. I did get mine for $400 and so far I have not broken it even though I am way way over the weight they say it will handle.

I am not, never was and never will be a bike fanatic but it does seem to be a pretty good bike and it is hard to find large wheels in a foldie. ( Foldies for foamies? )
