We found the hardest part of EVC was keeping our mental state together ... Best to KEEP BUSY !!! Wherever we stayed , we had our S**t together so took the opportunity to help everybody else, doing home repair, cleaning, cooking , entertaining, “listening” , whatever was needed ... Spiritually fulfilling, tiring , and kept our minds off the constant television pics showing the evolving “disaster”, which in our case seemed to get Worse by the day ... :frightened:
Strange Psychological things can happen under these stresses... Stay Cool, stay Focused !!!! Have someplace private to go to “escape” temporarily ... Like a Foamie

GPW, does anyone consider using a boat for evac I have been reading lots about the shanty boats and then thought who would build a foam shanty boat...

Avoiding a hurricane which is high winds and water and usually only 48 to 72 hr notice to evacuate. A boat wouldn't be a very intelligent option for departing the area in just saying.

Sometimes a boat is Handy after the storm has passed ... :frightened:

So many Very Cool Foamies being built now .... Seems like this has taken off and got a life of it’s own ... Everybody knows what to do ... and the many variations only add to the Foamie knowledge base ... 8) Proven with the literally thousands of miles they’ve been towed... Durability no longer a question ... (jury still out on frozen Turkey strikes  )
And to think , all this started with a simple way to waterproof plywood ... :o BIG THANKS to everyone involved!!!!!! :applause:

Hi droid ca,

Were you thinking a 'trailerable' shanty boat [small houseboat]?
That way you'd be covered for land or water routes.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

A boat is a handy thing to have .... I’m Really liking Rosey’s Foamie boat ... just pop it atop the TD ... Ready for anything ... I did live in a boat , briefly, the common complaint was evident .... Dampness...

Checked last night on that old pop up trailer down the street ... it’s Gone !!! :o Given away ...

Yes thats what I was thinking of....I have never been in an EVAC situation but thought that it might lighten the burden by having different ways of living in one compact unit that could also be used in your recreational time

How about just adding some Foam pontoons under a Foamie cabin TD ??? ... just trailer the whole thing ... Foam does come in “dock float” sizes .... couple of those should float an Elephant ... :o

That looks so much like the houseboat my Grandpa had. It was some type of old canned ham mounted to the deck of a pontoon boat. The stove and sink from that boat ended up in the first Apache popup my parents bought.

More revelations .... Since Archery is one of my other “hobbies” , saw this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDO__SNu ... ure=relmfu and associated videos by this author.
Then had the thought since PVC bends so easily and is Strong enough for a bow , then it might apply to a Foamie as well in some way ... like those incidental roof ribs, hatch ribs, and possibly some framing once it’s flattened and bent to profile shape ... It Certainly would solve all my Rib problems/considerations in the FoamStream , and offer the advantage of no Rot ... plastic eh ... 8) Also more Thrifty than anything else I could come up with ... crumbs for thought

"...since PVC bends so easily..."

G...Indeed...1" PVC is used in building those semi-permanent (long-term temporary?) green houses. There's one next county west that's been standing now for three years and still looks as though its weathered well (as best as I can tell from the road). PVC'd make excellent ribbing, once incorporated with skinned foam.
