my wife was one of those people who's parents never did anything... boating, camping, etc. She only had a bike because her Grandfather who repaired and sold bikes for a hobby (selling them to the Mennonites in central PA) gave her one. For our third anniversary I took her canoe camping, and we did that for quite a few years after that. Since my kids are old enough to enjoy camping we go canoe camping every spring with my sisters family and her in laws.
My wife is willing to put up with the tent, outhouse, etc for a few days, but this year she was much happier to have a camp shower and shower tent each morning.
For our anniversary she would rather be in a fancy hotel or resort, but the tear with a potty for the night and real bathrooms nearby lets us save our money for activities instead of spending all our money on where we stayed.
For me dragging all my gear on my back sounds like torture, taking whatever fits in a canoe or two and heading whre there is only boat acess is camping. the teardrop is a luxury tent, that gets us to places we otherwise might not afford to stay.
I don't get the huge RV crowd, bringing all the stuff from home, and only enjoying the outdoors for a few hours a day at a campground, I do that in my back yard... without the traffic and expense of getting to the campground
