A curfew is in place on Virginia's swamped Chincoteague Island. Officials say the entire 37-square-mile island is underwater, and there is no way off the island because a causeway to the mainland has been closed. The 3,500 islanders who decided to tough out Hurricane Sandy have been told to keep off the streets.

we have a foam roof on the boxers shelter (for when he is outside), anyway, its 1/2 gone now.

100,000 w/o power here in CT, about to go to 150k when they shut down a hub due to flooding.

Ours blipped out and came back on (probably was rerouted), and has flickered a few times.

Yvette got home at 5:00pm; they "made" her stay the whole day for some strange reason. She had to divert (u-turn) a couple of 3 times to make here way home due to downed trees on the rural routes.

Blowing hard now. Pretty impressive to see the 2 foot diameter base of the tree trunk in front of my living room window swaying back and forth a few inches; never seen that before. View outside other windows similar with trees waving around impressively. Tarp on boat (which had a small rip to begin with) is opened like a zipper. Getting dark now, high tide, lots of regional flooding. Previous tide never went out.

In CT they say we are getting the worst of it here in southeast end with higher winds and surge in Long Island Sound.

Hope everyone else is safe and sound, especially those in areas that are getting it worse.

About 250,000 w/o power now in CT. Lights continue to flicker a bit here and there.

:frightened:

I'm hanging in there, still have power, plus cable TV and internet (obviously by this post).

Good news! Those Bradfords come down at just the thought of wind around here. I don't mind because they smell like rencid meat when they bloom. The only thing I hate about spring around here is those stupid pear trees. Well, that and the cottonwoods a little later. Glad you made it through alright.

Yeah, we lost cable/internet/land phone. Only casualty appears to be the boat tarp, which was due anyway.

Checked the call in line at work and found the same message as yesterday. Came in and found that they waited until start time to cancel (dumb a$$es). All's well though, they have internet and I was able to stay and work all day (so far) on chunker bits and pieces.

Good to hear you guys checking in without major damage - some of the images on the news look pretty catastrophic. We had another quake last night but at 6.2 it wasn't worth mentioning...especially not when compared to flooded subway tunnels and the meter of snow dumped in WV !

At least Louella's got fresh pumpkin pie for breakfast !!
