Wow GPW

Looks fantastic! It's big enough to be a garage for my teardrop. If I build a #2, the FoamStream has convinced me that CNC is the way to go on the plywood structure.

Looking fantastic GPW !

I just half-fast read through the entire FS thread here [almost as 'bad' a
going through the 'Big thread !] and didn't find any specific mention of,
so I'm curious if you had any ribs done for the rounded front, or did
you just elect not to do so and decided to just 'carve it out of foam' ?
You did mention front ribs in ths post -
viewtopic.php?p=964512#p964512 ] but I didn't
see anything further as to if they were done or not. [Unless I missed it].

Just curious...

Anyway, for future iterations, [ since Vinnie said he'd be willing to cut ribs etc. for others:
viewtopic.php?p=964183#p964183 ] one could use the
semi-circular topsections as semicircular horizontal framing for the front lower
wall, and where this lower 'front' straight wall meets the top wall and roof semi-circle
start, one could use either full semi-circle arch sections fanned up from the horizontal
to the first upright section of the main body, or half semi-circle sections ["quarter
sections" (?)] fanned vertically from one side to the other. Or, probably easier, just fan
half-ribs [or half-bents] vertically from one side to the other. My thinking here is, that it might
be easier for, a neophyte to foam, to apply the foam planks/pieces to the rigid shape that
the ribs provide as opposed to carving it all out of the foam freehand, so to speak, and trying
to keep the semi-circular shape true, - sort of letting the CNC cut pieces handle that aspect
of it.

It will be fun to watch the progress ! Here's hoping the weather will cooperate for you.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Thanks everybody !!!!! ... we’re just so Happy to get this far ... :D I’m still surprised how quickly the frame went together ... Half a day and it was done , and with no help either .. 8)

Norm , there will be two half ribs , one glued to the floor and one positioned about 3 feet above it , connected by more stringers that will form the front round shape , leaving the top section to be carved ... Not so bad as trying to carve the whole front , and much more sturdy ... ;) Just the nose of the trailer is good for another 15 sq.ft. of floor space , and a shelf the same size above it ...

Even Vinnie was surprised by the assembly , and immediately started thinking of other uses for the ribs ... movable hunting camps , storage sheds, playhouses for the kiddies , and shed for his motorcycle ... He’s already got the Program , so if anybody else wants ribs , he can pop them out on the machine ... Now I think he wants one too ...

Stopped raining (finally ) , hope to work on the floor today ... if the weather cooperates (outside work) ... Coming along now ...

Norm makes good point about having a couple of radial quarter arcs coming from the center of the forward most vertical hoop and landing on your curved front knee wall. That would make a good sanding guide and would also allow you to piece the fill in parts from smaller scraps.

With your artistic ability, you probably don't need the guides, tho.

KC , I was going to use a cardboard template for the Round bit , but a built in guide wouldn’t be a bad idea  :o ... Anything that makes it easier and more accurate is Very GOOD ... as proven by those CNC ribs .... I’d have Never gotten that much consistency doing it by hand ... I’ll consult with Vinnie , he’s the one who has to still cut out the front ribs , and would likely agree with youse’ guys ... ;)

Mounting the crossmembers now .... nothing like trying to drill through a homemade trailer :o  Drilled two holes and had to take a break and let the drill motor cool off... They must have got the Steel off a bridge or something , the rails are 5/16 thick .. hard stuff !!! :?

Any idea what that might cost and weigh? It's got me thinking.

Bonnie , I really have no idea ... there’s the sheet of plywood and the machine time ... That’s about it ... The skeleton all up weight has to be near 100# ... plywood , (3) 1X4x10s , and (10) 10' furring strips ... Still pretty light for what it does ... :D I was thinking of all kinds of ideas to cover it with and use it for , besides a trailer .. One thought was gluing/nailing lattice strips over the frame , painting the whole thing with "the mix" (wood) and then covering over it with some fabric and paint ... like a canoe ... That should be VERY Strong eh !!!

Got all the holes drilled , oil helped ... Didn’t have any cutting oil , just 3 in 1 oil , that worked ... Used a forstner bit to relieve the wood for the carriage bolt heads so the flooring could lie flat over the top... Still have to add another in the front for the nose , and over the axle ... ran out of wood ... back to the store tomorrow ... or a quick dig through the woodpile ... Getting closer ...

That is what I'm doing -- thinking. Playhouse possibly. Would you ask him what it might cost? Then there would be shipping...
