Persistence pays off ;) ... After calling around all morning , I finally found a supplier for the 2” extruded foam ... A little “off the beaten path" insulation house , that’s right on the way to Vinnies’ ... A name I’ve never heard on a street I’ve never been on .. and yet so close ... :duh: The 2” foam is $1.20 a sq. ft. or just about in line with the other prices we’ve seen ... and they HAVE It !!! 8) :applause: :P Tomorrow , off to get the foam ... :D
Ps. told the sales lady what I was doing , and she asked if I would bring some pictures ... Seems a hurricane EVAC trailer is a popular subject around here right now ... :o

GPW returns from a successful hunt! Now you can add blue foam dust to you white dust. It will add a nice touch of class to the yard decor. :D

We’d best not mention the foam dust and the little chunks that have started to blow all over the yard now ... Those bits will only be around for what , a thousand years ? ... :frightened:

I have a question to ask of my fellow Foamlings '... and need some opinions ... I’ve got the BLU foam and am ready to measure, mark and cut it to fit .... The only thing is what should I glue it on with ? Part of the foam around the door contacts the door frame , already primed with the gripper ... The rib is bare plywood and the outer foam is bare ... All wood rib , frames and braces will make contact with the Blu ... Was considering using the Gripper around the door frame where it’s already “grippered” , and Great stuff on the bare outer foam , Blu to beadboard .. What do you think ? :NC

How will you clamp it to the face of all of that?

Maybe some temporary backer pieces of wood to act as clamps/washers and then long screws to reach thru the foam and pull it to the rib? Once cured remove the screws and backers and just fill the holes with GS or spackle/drywall mud?

If you can get a good clamp on it I would use the GG. It expands enough to fill voids and glues great (as you surely know).

Seems to me what you need to handle all of the conditions you described, so long as you can get a good clamp and constrain everything so that it stays put where you want it.

I second to use gorilla glue to glue to the wood.

The Gorilla Glue will probably give you the most control when handling large pieces and multiple contact points. We all know the Great Stuff sticks to everything, but would be best suited, in this case, to filling the gaps as the working time is pretty short. Using one glue to do it all will make the job easier.

How about adding some dowels glued through the door frame
every 6in or so, oriented perpendicular to the door frame
and centered in the foam's width ? Heavier [larger diameter]
bamboo skewers might work too and would save having to
sharpen dowels. Just thinking it wouldn't hurt to have some
kind of mechanical link between the door and the back foam
wall too as well as the glue bond.

Cheers,

Thanks everybody !!! 8) I’ll have to get some new GG , only a bit in the old bottle , left over from Foamie #1 (old) ... Naturally , I have tons of the Gripper , Great Stuff , and T2  ... Back to the store ... (which turns out OK , cause’ I have to get groceries today , so no problem )

Hmmm? Was going to get the wife to hold the panel up till it dries ... guess that won’t work ...   Do have a collection of little plywood strips and some 3” drywall screws... that should do it...

Once we get the back on , we’ll be essentially dried in , and can proceed with sanding the entire outer surface , and then applying the heavy canvas  ... BTW , the #8 canvas (18oz. ) is very thick and I doubt it will be stretching very much , so we may have to be “innovative" in covering the more challenging surfaces ... like the rounded top of the Nose ...
This canvas is a little heavier than need be , but should provide a very Durable long lasting surface ... A bit of “overkill” maybe , but I want it to be Strong and last a loooong time ... :D

Ps. Norm, I have quite a collection of bamboo chopsticks to help achieve that "mechanical bond" , already pointy on the ends ... 8)

Wow, that looks so good!
I know from my experience, that if you use gg and those 3" nails, it will make a great bond and clamps well also. Did it on my second one. Had to take a jig saw to tear it apart.

Thanks Eagle !!! Here’s the latest pics , all glued up and my somewhat “Crude” clamping system  ... I must admit I broke with reasonable thinking and used the Great stuff to glue everything , which has worked well thus far , and we had a bunch of it , and it’s like a "Super Glue" for Foam... dries Very quickly in this 90F + heat ...

When the CAO (Chief Acquisition Officer) presented me with the grocery list , I told her there were so few things to get , it wasn’t worth it to drive the 30+ miles there and back again ... so the GG was out ... :o
