Hi,

Here's a discussion for The Lil Bertha{/i} aluminum trailer kit.

http://www.mikenchell.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=855540#855540

I would like to make the build shorter than the 12' but use two more cross members in the frame and put the flooring in the resulting channels. It would be about 3 inches thick, so, if I used a foam and something sandwich, would that work?

The side rails and cross members are C channel 3X1 and 5/8 ish.

Something like this:

[ foam sandwich ][ foam sandwich ][ foam sandwich ]

I don't believe I can buy just one more cross member as they are listed in pairs. I would like ideas on where the axle would need to go. Still looking at either an 8 or 10 foot length for the cabin.

Thanks.

The outside rails are 3.5 inches thick and the cross members are 3 inches thick. If you fill the 3 inch cavity with foam and have cross memberes at at min 2 ft spacing, cover the cross members with 1/4 inch plywood (sealed and treated) and inside the outside rails, you would have a very flush surface, both top and bottom to build on.

For extra support you could put in short sections of board going front and back in the cavities for more floor support.

A further note would be to use the 3 inch cavity for placement of electrical, plumbing, etc.
