Harbor Freight's Out of the Picture

Postby Tiredoldwhiteman » Mon Sep 26, 2011 6:15 pm

I sent an email to Harbor Freight requesting a trailer be drop shipped to my local store (45 miles north). This is the reply I received:

"Our apologies, however we do not ship items to our Retail stores as the
online orders gets shipped to the customer's address only."

My reply was that this was too bad for them and that I can buy a similar trailer locally for LESS once the exorbitant shipping is applied. I further informed them I can purchase items from other stores just as easily as I can buy from them...So they lost a customer...No big deal for them, I'm certain.

Too bad for Harbor Freight and good for Tractor Supply (although they're not altogether THAT great with customer service, but a buck is a buck)...

Just thought you'd like to know...

TOWM , that was the same problem I had ... They advertise the trailers on sale , but don’t stock them at the stores , not even one .... and the shipping for me was about 120 USD .... I e-mailed HF about this and a nice rep called and said he have a trailer for me in a couple weeks , but I’ve never heard back from him since .... grrrrr!!! :x

Thanks, Cliff, for the lead...A bit pricy for my frugal budget (sigh), but they've got to get the shipping paid for somehow. ;)

Off to Craig's list to sit in the vulture's tree...

If you’re unhappy with HF , be sure to send their customer service a stern e-mail ... Their rep said their policies were less than perfect , and advertising something not stocked in stores was one ... It’s the only way they’ll learn of our dissatisfaction ...

Same here. Not a single trailer in stock, only the floor display model which was not for sale. I got the same answer, no shipping to the store. Shipping to my house was well over $100. I lost interest in them after that and got my frame off Craigslist.

In the Indianapolis, IN Craig's List, there is a small company in Flatrock, IN who will make any trailer to your specification. Evidently their prices are so good that a competitor was flagging their posts to get them removed.

Maybe there is a similar place closer to you.

(Disclaimer: I have no financial interests in this company, etc. Just thought it was strange that their posts all summer were allegedly flagged by a competitor.)

Having studied the trailer (small one ) at HF , I think someone with good tools could easily make their own ... Steel ,good bolts , springs, couplers, etc. are all readily available at our local Hdwe. store ... the only pricy thing is the axle /hubs etc. ... But it’s possible to get Better quality components than the Chinese ones ... Probably won’t save any money , and you have to do the Fab ...
And there’s always a used boat trailer , which likely would require some cutting down ... Everybody around here has a boat , even me , so trailers are common and cheap ...

Sad that HF can’t get their act together , as it’s been said that some stores actually carry them :o They are perfect for these little 4X8s we make ...

Actually , we’re only quibbling over a few bucks , but it’s the “principleâ€

I have used the TSC 4x8 NF almost exclusively for all five of my builds and well pleased with them. They are welded together plus you get a certificate of origin that makes it easy to register them.
