where to get large amount of foam?

Postby swampjeep » Thu Dec 29, 2011 11:40 am

I remember seeing a post here with a link to buying a truck load of used foam. It was still highly useable, anyone remember where or have the link?
A friend wants to insulate his 30x40 pole barn, I'm thinking I could split the truck load with him, do my barn, and have some to build a camper too... if price is worth it after shipping.

and
Smaller pieces:

I may look at the second one. Will call after pay day. :)

When I called the place I linked above, I was told they are based out of MA, but have distribusions centers all over the country, there is one in MI but currently only had bead board. He was going to check with their IL place and get back to me but has yet to call back. The price was going to be $.22 sq ft for 3" thick ISP, but he needed to see if they had the ammount I was looking for along with a shipping price.

If anyone wanted to, it would probably be worth calling and findign out the closest distributionn center, and if close enough to go get it, would be really cheap... I'm sure the shipping will end this for me, unless the mi location gets what I need in.

The only catch was you must buy a min. of one pallet. I'm sure that would strap easily to teh trailer you plan to use for the camper... :)

Checked Craig’s List for Styrofoam ... came up with this ... http://neworleans.craigslist.org/mat/2756649944.html
Interesting for maybe a Lego style TD build ... (Bricks )
Certainly cheap enough ....

Probably many sites to obtain Foam and lots of it ... for a good price ... 8)

Left a message with the construction company offering the 3'x6' foam boards. No word yet. Probably next week. :0

If I'm framing some anyhow, do you think 1.5" foam will be strong enough? Or should I plan to double up?

"Twice as thick is 8 times as strong" ... Best you decide what’s right for you ... Good Luck on getting the foam ...

It would now appear that there are many Deals to be had on Foam ... Certainly no deals at Loew’s or HD ...

SJ, I’m starting to think these big box stores are a ripoff.... Their wood is Junk and expensive ... no quantity discounts ... and sometimes they just don’t stock what we need ... Grrr!!
