Beer Trailer ... That’s Always appreciated !!! 8)

How about this ... a thin cardboard skin under the canvas... would not add much weight .. the cardboard would probably stick better to the foam , and the canvas to the cardboard too ... It would be incredibly STRONG !!! ... and making a nice base for the fabric so less filler would be required for a smooth finish ...

You know cardboard is made of wood (cellulose) ... many advantages over wood really ... used properly ...

On hold for right now I'm relocating 200 miles north to the Abilene area in the next several days and then it will be buildamania soon after I'm there as I have a carry-on 4x8 sitting here needing something to arise from it. Considering a 4x8 version of the layout eagle is looking at doing or just a simple 4x8 rear entry sleeping cabin cheap and quick to flip some money.

I must have missed this... I knew Eagle was looking for a new trailer... but where is the information on a 4x8 version that eagle is looking at?

I assumed he meant the overhang unit based on the sketch that GPW did?

I liked that idea myself. 4'x8' box with a 6'x8' tier on top. Allows for 5'x6' sideways sleeping (or, perhaps 4'x6') if you're under 6' and another 3'x4' of standup space at the rear entrance.

Using the sides for storage or, perhaps, even put a table in, using the sides for bench seating.

Yes Mike a hybrid version of the 5x10 she is looking at building with the overhangs on each side but doing it on a 4x8 but my trailer has no rails so it all has to be constructed on my end so might just do the basic between the wheels box with rear door. Quick and light and easy.

I haven't found the trailer yet, but, if I end up going with the basic 4x8 frame from HF or TSC, it won't be a box trailer either so I figured I'd just end up building the lower part of the box from lumber.

I'm figuring that the lower part would need to be more of a traditional frame type setup since there would be no steel box to offer any additional support.

Steve, what were you figuring. To use 2x2 or 2x4 to make the frame, foam in between, skinned with luan?

The upper, overhang part could be done like the pic Mike just posted there.

TJ I'll just use a 1x2 sandwich with 3/4" foam inside laid directly on my TSC 4x8 cross beams and bolted down and then use the same to do my side walls and overhangs light and ultra crazy strong.

Yes it's a dead on explanation of how sandwiches make something massively stronger. Just imagine how much stronger it gets with harder skins other than paper.

The sandwich gets its strength from the whole glue surface on both sides as the skin and glue can't bend and give due to how much shear strength is added on the whole surface. When she places the weight on the sandwich the weight load is distributed across the entire upper and lower surface where before the skin it is primarily where it is placed and is totally dependent on the strength of the foam at that location and not the entire both side surfaces of the foam.

I learned this reading all the lightweight wall threads over in the construction tips subforum and have built 2 campers using this and can vouch it gives insane strength at much less weight.
