What to do with Left Over Foam?

Hey Guys,
A friend of mine was telling me that he wanted a cooler that would hold a couple of cokes and fit in his Motorcycle Saddle Bag. Since I had some 1 inch foam left over from my build, I thought I'd give it a try. I asked him for the inside dimensions of his saddle bag and he said it was the size of the old 12 packs.

So with a few drink cans as a template, I started to construct a foam cooler for a saddle bag. I glued it using the Blue can of Great Stuff then sealed the corners with silicone caulk. There is an extra 1/2 inch of insulation on the bottom because of the exhaust pipes being right under the bag. Also there is another 1/2 inch of foam on the lid with door insulation around that for the seal. Then I glued on T-shirt material for a cover. It isn't very pretty, but MAN! It holds the ice better than most store bought coolers. I filled it with Ice and left it in my hot car, in the sun, for 5 hours. I lost less than an inch of ice and only a cup of water poured out.

The best part was the cost. Free, because it was all scrap materials.

That cooler is..umm...cool !!
I tried recycling some of my scrap but they wouldn't take it. I keep it now and put it into the flotation compartments of my boats.

Something that holds beer and keeps it cold!!! What a great idea!!! Actually in my mind, anything that holds beer is a good idea! But I really like the use of leftover foam

that is cool!
i wonder how long it will keep things cold and if ice is put in, how long til it melts. i might have to play here.

my hubby used some of my bigger pieces to make doors for his shed. it worked, and like you said, it was free, left over pieces.

You got my wheels turning. I could build a raft with what I have left over.

3 1/2 inch top and walls. A living hinge. Reflective inside. Bed liner outside.

Have to be huge though. Or maybe a proper icebox with glue lam wood exterior?

I told a buddy about the foam campers and the cooler I made. He said that since the Galley is made of foam, it's half way insulated already. Have a built in cooler in the center of the cabinet and make the top, part of the counter top. The drain would serve cold water from any melted ice and there would be plenty of cold beer, drinks, and food.
I like the way he thinks.

My work with foam does lack quality but I've wanted a cup cozie that actually keeps my soda pop cold. It isn't quit finished but it does work well. It's supposed to look like a coffee cup, though I believe a LOT of people will see a beer mug.

I hate breakable Christmas tree ornaments. They break and my wife doesn't like a tree decorated with broken ornaments. So I got some scrap foam, cut it into cubes, went to a fabric store and got several "Christmassy" fabrics and some yarn and gold and silver colored cord and made little "packages" and hung them on the tree. You and mash them a bit if you step on one but you can't break em.

Cheers,

Gus

I like foam. I like foam and I hate throwing stuff away, sooooooo I made a lightweight step. I'm up in the camper and back out again trying to finish up the inside and my little woman and I will some day need a step anyway. It really doesn't weigh much at all.

I actually have it canvassed [or sheeted with an old bed sheet] but it still needs some paint and maybe a nonslip surface [like a bit of sand] on the step.
