Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

This stuff looks very promising for Foamy's.

It can be used as a coating and a glue. It is a two part, but is environmentally friendly.

In one of the videos it specifically said it would hold fabric to foam for structural strength.

It is for both extruded and expanded foams.

It also can be applied in multiple layers to build up a nice smooth finish.

Watch the videos and check out the pictures. Making the balloon dog was cool and you can get a idea how strong and smooth it turns out.

Price does not seem too bad.

wow sounds great but at $120 for two gallons I wonder what a foamie would weight and how many gallons you would need.

Still going to be more economical than aluminum, if you want a smooth finish. I would think 2 gallons would be more than enough for a standard sized TD if you just use it on the outside and use paint for the inside canvas.

I wonder after watching them make the baloon dog if you would even need canvas on the outside. If you did not have to cavas the outside it might make up for the extra cost.

I saw this and though about how it could be used as a filler for the weave and extra bumps the BUB has. While it doesn't meet my thrifty level, it is a tempting thing to have the interior walls smooth. While foamies are thrifty and all, they are evolving too. This foam could be another way to protect more artful additions to the designs we are making.

Remember, GPW, to each his own. Not everyone one, though most are worried thrifty, others have some degree of expendable resources. At $120 for the two gallons, I personally would have to think long and hard about using the material but in the long run I spent a lot more than that on fiberglass and epoxy. Also remember that some of us like a smooth finish and go out of the way (money and time wise) to get one. The lot of us are already one off from the standard teardrop build line of thinking and we got here by thinking outside of conventions, we should encourage free thinking... The thread started off being all about thrifty but that's not where it should end.

Just trying to encourage free thinking and open discourse.

StyroSpray is 100% solids polyurea hard coating product; it contains no water or solvents to evaporate away. Most water and solvent base paints contain 30 to 40% water or solvent which is lost.

YUP and if you think of an idea and no one else can give you input, I think it becomes your responsibility to test it and share with the rest of the curious minds around here...

Agreed !!! But I still can’t think how it would hold the Cabin together as well as a fabric would ... Just the skeptic in me as we’ve used heavy coatings in the past (epoxy coatings from the oilfield ) which eventually cracked and failed ... over time ... New product , unproven with the “test of time” , vs. a long proven ," Bona fide “ canvas covering that we Know works ... You see my dilemma.... JMHO

I think there may be a misconception here. StyroSpray can be used with fabric/cloth for strength. They talked about it breifly on one of the videos.

Watching them build the balloon dog they used StyroSpray over a 10'x3' balloon, 3 layers, and then they deflated the balloon and cut holes into each end with a hole saw. Also they knocked on it with their knuckles and it sounded solid. If you look at the specs it shows it has a tear strength of 275lbs. per square inch. I just thought it might be something to consider, once tested of course.

Just think of two-part truck bedliner. This is basically the same stuff.

This looks really good and they state you can cover it with oil or water based paints. Very interesting indeed good find and I'm with spray it on no canvas as the plastic is the hard adhered shell so why use anything between it and the foam?
