Had a thought ... What about a PVC pipe frame under the foam and canvas ... Nothing to Rot , protected from UV exposure, and like the foam , Extremely flexible without breaking ... PVC is cheap, easy to cut and bend to most any shape we want ... and there is a selection of end caps , Tees , 90’s , etc.
Wouldn’t need much to glue it to the foam , the glue only as strong as the foam it’s glued to ... Or, the foam could be channeled slightly (hot wire) to receive the PVC pipe for a more secure fit ... and seemingly enabling the parts to be made as “panel” or modules to be assembled later ... The skin holding it all together !!!
And then there’s that square PVC fencepost available ... wonder what we could do with that ... and a saw ...

And just to add to that thought , an oversimplified drawing as an explanation ... and the idea that you could also use the PVC as wiring runs too ... Multitasking

My thought is that the std. ftg's would be a big restriction to organic shapes. Also, PVC can be brittle in cold climates.

Could work, just not for me.

Hmmm? perhaps ? The fittings were just one example of what “could” be done ^ .... For The COLD regions , use the gray PVC ...

Since I am in the planning stage of a pop-up foamie, and who plumbed two homes w PVC, it looks VERY interesting. Gonna keep it as a possibility.

The trouble with pvc pipe is when round meets square. It's pretty hard to actually connect the pvc to the required structure it is intended to support without too much fiddling.

Two years later , I still think this is a good idea ... PVC plumbing pipe has certainly proved itself durable around here with all the Bow making and shooting that went on . (archery bow ) And , since we learned to easily heat bend it , the sky’s the limit ...

I too, think it is a good idea When I come down maybe we can flatten a three foot piece leaving about 2 inches on each end.

Too bad it does not come in a square shape. Then we would be in biz for sure and I certainly like the ease of working with PVC, great stuff.

That's interesting. You have the advantage of me; easier to buy weird stuff in a major metro area with large petro-chemical plants nearby than around here in the boonies. Our advantage is miles and miles of nobody !!

I did see some on Amazon but limited in length due to shipping restrictions.
