Foam porn...

At work, they are replacing the roof on the building next door. It looks like 24 sheets on a pallet, 8 pallets for each row, and 4 rows - that's 768 sheets of what looks like 2" foam. Do you think I could talk them out of 4 or 5 sheets? Probably not.

It's my guess that it's the yellow, polyisocyanurate foam that safe to use with my polyester resin, too. :(

Be sure to grab scraps! You can always throw them out later if they get in your way.

I doubt that they purchased extra materials with the intent of providing you with materials for your build.

However I also doubt that they ordered exactly the right amount to do the job and that they will be unable to return the surplus material as it was supplied on pallets.

Soooooo, I'd find out who is in charge and "offer" to "responsibly dispose of" any material left over at the end of the job. Also they might have cutoffs that you could epoxy back together into usable sizes so you might do some "dumpster diving" during the project.

There are ways to negotiate w/o being tacky. I like to ask folks if they're "flexible" (everyone likes to be flexible), if there is a "cash no receipt required" (used that one and saved $50 just this week), or remind them that I'm a "valuable repeat customer".

Be clever, humorous, and I think you might be able to get some foam for free.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus

It's best that at I not even ask since it's a federally owned building on a secured site. But, I'd love some larger scraps.

Go up to the gate and ask for the person in charge of the construction and talk to them. There is always extra ordered on a government project and a lot of times if you ask for any large scraps they will give them to you to save on trash cost.

US citizens employees and contractors are permitted to have cameras. Not really supposed to walk around with a camera, but I develop training and often need site photos.

I'm inside the gate. Sometimes I see the guys in the caf (I'm across the hall from it) in the morning when they get breakfast - maybe I'll talk to them. get some big chunks.

Tim you never know, while doing work on Ft Benning I would trade and give extra cabinets and damaged cabinets to other contractors and employees because I hated trashing them and when one of the guys asked if I had any extra materials I would always make sure next ones I had I would offer to them first.
