I was wondering what the benifits to using gripper as a primer as apposed to regular primer when painting if any. I'm using TBII to stick the canvas on I'm pretty happy with how the door is working out with my freebie canvas roll I got.

Scott , regular primer is OK as long as it’s water based... and sand-able ...

Free roll of canvas ... Good going !!! 8)

Is some primer sandable and some not, I've never sanded primer

It's 6' by about 40', it's the material used for making office cubical deviders. Working pretty well on the door so far I'll post a pick when I re mount the door, gonna look funny with one canvas door on a duct tape camper but I couldn't wait till after the gathering to test it out and put a new door knob on the camper.

The reason I like the gripper is because it is thick and fills in all the tiny holes and becomes almost chalky and I stress almost. it is almost like a liquid spackling in that it goes into all the pores of the cloth and fills and seals. I am sure there are other base and primers that do the same thing we just found that gripper is thick and very sandable, I used it as a filler not the final coat of paint. Now that is how I used it.

My 2 cents worth

Ok so I bought a qt of gripper to see what it was like as a primer on my one door I really think I'd have to give it a  I liked the way it covered and a light sanding and a second coat and it's pretty smooth.

I know it is expensive but it does sand out really smooth. You saw my td without any on it just canvas and TBII I am going to be putting on a second coat real soon. But I need to really have a perfect weather day to it and I have a little more to do first.
