Canvas drop cloths at HF

I was just at HF. I did not know that they sold 10oz canvas drop cloths. 4x12 reg price of $19.98/ sale price $8.99.... And 9x12 reg of $26.98/sale price $16.99, then take 20% off. Sounds like a deal !

Beware of the stitched seams. These and other big box store canvas drop cloths usually have a big fat seam down the middle. Some people have reported no seams, then went back to buy more and found seams.

Guess you could open it up and check it out before you buy it .... It’s the reasonable thing to do ... If they don’t let you , then walk away ...

If you need canvas that has a 9'x6' clear area look for the HF drop cloth with a tight stich in the edges. The tread is also shinny, and all edges are finished.

The other drop cloth, the stiching is loose and the thread is not shinny and is similar in color as the canvas. Also, only two ends are finished. The other ends are just cut canvas .

I guess that the seams would only effect the visual look/finish. But from what I've read. The overall texture of canvas and PMF is at best a textured look. As for the large seam down the middle. How large are we talking here ?

I would guess 3/8 to 1/2 inch. If I had a larger area to cover I would size both sides of the seam and then cut it out with a razor. Then you could overlap the canvas and make a small, not so noticeable overlapping seam.

That's kind of what I was thinking, When your budget is a tight as mine is, will come up with ideas to save a buck.

I am using the HF canvas in my build. It has worked out just fine. If you get the right canvas (there are two types that I have ran into) the seam is not a problem. At least for a 8'4"x4'2" trailer side. You can read up on the application of the canvas on my build here.

Hi I bought a 9x12 HD drop cloth to cover me and my sleeping bag last year out west to keep the dew off. It's rather heavy. I used bedsheets to cover my box for the Suby, on old paneling and some Luan, and was pretty happy. I'm wondering how two layers of bedsheets might work, I think it would be lighter, but don't want to give up any structural strength.
