Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hi everyone. I'm still getting acquainted with your forum - mainly checking out the foamie section. I was linked here by a nice fellow after I finished my build, and I sure wish he'd done it a bit sooner! Oh well, such is life. You guys sure do have a lot of information though, and plenty of good advice/tips/tricks etc that I could have used.

My build looks... nothing like anything I've seen here. The stuff you build is pretty! Mine... not so much. I based my design off of the hexayurt project, and it goes together without any internal structure or wooden framing (as hexayurts are designed to be portable).

I'm also happy to see a few folks here building off of the harbor freight trailer that I love so very much! I'll always have a special place in my heart for it, especially after how hard I've pushed it's limits I'm sure you guys will find a lot of improvements that I could make, but maybe you'll get some ideas too! Either way I'm sure you'll have a bit of a laugh

I took a quick look at your link -- a really great job on the Yurt and on the web page. I only read a small part of it (so far - looking forward to a full read) - very interesting. Your tables add a lot and (along with the great photos) make your page OUTSTANDING! Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks for the post.

It actually does! But the setup I had before was the same trailer with two folded yurts on the bottom, and all of our heavy stuff on top of that, so it was a bit wobbly and in general a bad idea haha. With this all I needed was some rearview mirror extensions

I've decided against windows since the festivals I go to can get pretty warm, I prefer the complete darkness and sun shielding provided by leaving them off. However...

I would agree wholeheartedly with the above! Round windows would keep the stress concentrations down, and I think they'd just look rad! Perhaps plexiglass taped on both sides to cover the hole and insulate. And an internal shade to keep the light out. Literally as I'm writing this I'm starting to change my mind on the "no windows" stance...

Interior height is about 8 feet. Would have to double check the math but I'm lazy right now :p

As for the rest of the feedback, thank you guys so much! It's good to find a place on the web with folks like you who are not only unafraid to try new things, but actively pushing forward! I salute you all!

rowerwet made round windows from gamma lids. The lid screws into the frame to protect during travel or as a shade.

Had no idea what those were so I googled it - that's absolutely brilliant! It's settled - I'm doing windows! Probably not until after my trip to Saguaro Man at the end of the month - but it needs to happen! Even if just to feel like I'm in a crazy submarine!

Rowerwet posted some nice instructions but I'm having trouble finding them. But he had pictures and good details.

Added advantage:. It provides its own frame. He just cut the foam and glued it in. Someone else (sorry, poor memory) made some refinements.
