Just back from 4 days at the Rio Grande Headwaters in Colorado:

Image

This is the Rio Grande Reservoir, just after the origin of of the river. The river starts as a swamp, a large broad valley floor, seeps water from below. Spring snow runoff also contributes greatly, but after the snow is melted, it is solely the soggy swamp that generates the water in the upper Rio Grande. It is the 5th longest river, in the USA.

Image

The Forest surrounding the headwaters burned, in 2013. It is in various stages of recovery.

Thanks, sw...

I have been up there, shortly after the run off subsided, I can imagine what it is like in full swing!

I was at "River Hill" CG, about 3 miles east of the Reservoir.

Hello George!

Yessir, all is well here. My camper is closing in on the one year mark. It has lived outdoors this entire time and has remained perfectly dry.
Canvas and paint are in great condition.

I sleep in it often in Winter, in my backyard. I have done temps as low as 5 above with 30 mph steady winds with no problems using just a 12v blanket.

I decided to "go luxury" and added a 110v pigtail. Now, when at home in the winter, I can run a little electric heater. I am completely amazed at how well it works. Runs maybe 3 minutes to get it toasty inside, then runs about a minute an hour to keep it toasty. In the mornings when I open the door I am absolutely amazed at how cold it is outside, as I am so warm and comfortable, inside :-)

I am so glad I built my foamie. I have really enjoyed it.

Hope all has been well with you, George.

Cheers, all...!!

Here is a photo of the inside of the "Foamie For One" with the little ceramic heater in place (on the right hand shelf) for those occasions when you are lucky enough to have electricity):

Hello Peeps...

About a year and a 1/2 of living entirely outdoors, I have no complaints as to how the "Foamie For One" is holding up. Inside has remained completely dry. Exterior paint on the canvass has held up well, on the outside.

My only concern is the manufactured door. The rubber trim on the outside of the door is looking like constant exposure to the sun is taking a toll.

Paid more for the door that any other single component on the camper, would really like this rubber to last.
Been putting Armour All on it, since it claims to be a "protectorant" but I am dubious that it doing that job, well.

Is there something else I should be using to keep this rubber around the door from further deterioration?
