canned ham plans at https://www.camperplans.com/

Postby JCleanhead12 » Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:35 pm

I stumbled across the website camperplans.com, and was impressed with the thoughtful design: it makes a lot of sense to me. I'm excited to jump in and build a trailer that is not an overweight, oversize, over-complicated monstrosity. Does anyone have experience with those plans, and thoughts on the design?

I searched the forum to see if this had been discussed before, but didn't find anything.

Thanks!

I can confirm. That's my site. I didn't want to create just blueprints for sale. One problem with a static set of plans is that there is no way to update them once they are in circulation. Plus, I wanted to be able to explain why I chose the options that I did and express some of my thoughts for why you might want to do it differently. So it's more of a course than just a set of plans. I wish I didn't have to charge for the course but keeping it online like that costs money in server fees, domain fees and security software along with my time to keep the site updated.

I've been planning on doing an update post on the trailer. What things I love, what things I have changed and overall my experiences in camping with it. This post has inspired me to get that done before the end of the month (Apr2022).

Hey Ron/NMMarauder thanks for your post. It is good to know that you are a real person, and active on the forum.

I look forward to your update post on the trailer. I sent a message to you via your website asking if you had thoughts on using the trailer in wetter, buggy conditions.

For the doubters out there - this post is not Ron trying to drum up business. I am not Ron. I'm just a guy from Canada interested in building a camper that I won't need a 3/4 ton truck to pull. I am close to retirement (so I'll have some spare time), pretty handy, and a bit of a minmalist.

I'm not sure 'active on the board' accurately describes me. I check in from time to time but my day job keeps me pretty busy.

I replied to your email but for the benefit of everyone else.....

The trailer has screens on all windows and they are held in place by magnetic strips. Strips are glued to the window frame, then the screen is pressed up against it, then loose strips are used to sandwich the screen to the other magnetic strip. I can report that it works flawlessly and it gives you the ability to easily remove the screen for repair or replacement. Keeping bugs out shouldn't be a problem.

As far as how waterproof Foamie technology is, I would like to call upon the members of this forum to weigh in. There is a member that lives in Maine and builds kayaks and teardrops out of foam. I always wanted to use my left over foam to make a kayak and this member had some great build pics.

KCStudly, GPW, ghcoe, or anyone else who remembers, do you recall who that is or better yet have a link to the kayaks?

Here is rowerwet's Instructibles page. Kayaks, campers, and all manner of other fun stuff.

I don't. But it's a huge deal that to one degree or another you can contact the designer--Ron--and ask him questions during the building process.

I have lost track of how many teardrop builders I have helped deal with challenges while they used my book as their guide/plans. (And, BTW, I don't think my book is for you. It's about teardrop building.)

That kind of support is a big deal.
