Hmmm? A Foamie Galileo ...???

Postby GPW » Sun Jun 12, 2022 9:12 am

Well, what can I say ? Giving up thinking about Foamie trailers is harder than I'd imagined. :o

Take today for instance , when I was surfing through You Tube , I saw this video about the "Galileo" . The Star Trek TV prop , which set off the old imagination about how cool the shape of it was , and if how much simplified , it would make a great Foamie trailer. ( Here we go again  )
Now if you're a trekkie you'll enjoy the whole video . But if you're a trailer fan , you can go to about 25:00 and see lots of framework pictures ... ( gut shots for trailer building consideration 8) ) . The framing looks simple , all the panels are flat , perfect for foam , the "basic" shape pretty nice looking , without any need for rounded bits, nacelles , wings/fins , it should be pretty easy to build... And if you look at the pictures of the back , a big fold out galley comes immediately to mind ... :Flippin Burger:

Just a thought about more Foamie trailer design ... and with all the advanced Foamie design and building knowledge accumulated here over the years , one could be built to easily last a lot longer than the TV prop did eh ?
And if you're a trekkie, how cool would be to have a mini Galileo as a land shuttle , you could even make some foam nacelles ( 'ish) to hide the trailer tires ... maybe even a little more streamlining as a benefit ? 8)

Just more crumbs for thoughts about Foamie trailers on a mild summer Sunday morning ... :D

I drew one up a few years ago with Sonotubes for the warp engines.

Great minds think alike!

22x8' it would scale down pretty well.
I'll be done when I'm finished, if that's not fast enough, take a number.

Hah! I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist for long
Turn the nacelles into water tanks…

I was thinking of using the nacelles for storage. A deck plate for access and a put stuff in a long bag on a rope to get stuff in and out.

Polarized deck plate or just a standard deck plate? :D

Actually, I was thinking the screw tops for 5 gal pails on a 12" sonotubes on the back end with a shaped foam/fiberglass nose cone.

A tad bit expensive. I needed two 5" pieces of 12" PVC pipe to reach through the walls from the outside of a houseboat to the port hole's I had installed. 20' 12" PVC $380, two 12" port holes $400, about a days wages at $90 hr. you do the math. lol

As our fearless leader has said ... " The quality is remembered , long after the price is forgotten " ...

And remember the original idea was to utilize the shape of the craft , nacelles , wings , impulse engines are all Optional ...

Could be done with painted graphics, only, on flat side of cabin, but would lose much of the dramatic effect. Be more aero, tho.
