Things have changed over the years as have phones. Now you can ware a watch that has GPS and you will not get lost.

And the apps from ones that costs money to those that are free.

My best friend uses Waze If there is a car at the side of the road he enters it in and others look for it.

Waze is great for driving in and near the cities. This handy navigation app informs you about traffic, construction, crashes, police and other roadblocks in real time. These excellent features make Waze super popular with Uber drivers and city commuters trying to cut down on travel time.

I left Waze behind as Goggle Maps picked up on the Hazard/Traffic feature. I now bounce between Google & Apple Maps. Each have the own preferences/uniqueness. Waze brought forward some new ideas but seems to have not evolved much since.

For camping apps, iOverlander has become a much used app. Like the older Freecampsites.net, iOverlander is socially updated and seems to have taken it's place.

I recently complained about available driving apps while I was in a campground. Several people recommended WAZE but I haven't tried it yet. Not free but Garmin has come up with a new one called Garmin-RV which is supposed to keep a person from ending up at a dead-end, in city traffic or on a very steep mountain side road. Haven't tried that one either. (I don't think I want to spend the money to find out that maybe it's all hype.) For me, I try to double check any on-line app suggestions against a tried-and-true paper map as I have gotten myself into some interesting situations with app suggestions.

Wow, I use the Waze app too. I am very often on the road, so this app is a great help to me. I have also installed an app to track public transportation. Sometimes I don't have access to a private car and have to take the bus. It's very convenient to see where the vehicle is and how many minutes I have left to wait. It's so cool that IT people develop apps that make our lives easier. I recently installed an app from https://smartengines.com/ that speeded up my workflow several times over. Now I don't have to search for online services to scan another document.

For navigation:
Google maps.
I make sure to download offline maps for any areas where we might not have cell service. This has worked very well all over the country showing even rough 4x4 tracks in very remote country

For finding campsites:
iOverlander
Freecampsites
Compendium
Google maps satellite view

For finding public lands, and things to see and do (hikes, waterfalls, views, tourist attractions)
Gaia gps
Google maps
All Trails
Atlas Obscura

Finding gas stations:
Google maps
Gas Buddy
I'll also use Conoco app for paying at those and the 76 stations for 10c off per gallon

On our recent trip to Florida we usedRV Parky to find pay RV parks to stay the night. It takes a bit to recognize the good and bad from the reviews but we found a place everyday. We used iOverlander to find free parking and water.

Here's a list of apps I have on my phone that I haven't used much yet:
NPS
Recreation.gov
We Camp Here
I'm thinking about joining Harvest Hosts but I haven't pulled the trigger yet...

there are several new ones
for those in need
Flush
nearest restroom. :NC
I use
Yelp
on the computer.... however there are several yelp apps.
so I know where to get the best food or service.

you can pull up on the net iphone apps and phone apps

camping, rvcamping, tincan camping, tent camping, travel, etc. there are sites there that will say 30 or 15 most popular.
You can copy that app's name and enter it with review and see if it will fit you!!

example https://thedyrt.com/magazine/lifestyle/ ... ping-apps/
free but The pro version gives you a trip planner, offline map access, and gear discounts. The pro version is $35.99 per year.

Goolge play offers several too.
