Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

What is the optimal thickness for a mattress in a teardrop trailer? Please share what kind of bed you use in your teardrop trailer and how thick it is. It'd help to plan (1) how much room to leave between the floor and a storage cabinet above your feet and (2) how high the bottom of the door should begin above the floor.

Is it correct, as a rule of thumb, that the door bottom should be about half as high above the floor as the thickness of the mattress (so you won't cut off the circulation in your legs getting in or out?

BTW, I'm thinking of using a queen sized foam mattress between 4 and 6 inches thick because I'm 6' 4" tall and weight about 250 lbs. Maybe one from Ikea because they have a good selection. I'm beginning the framing of the side walls so it's time to make a decision for the height of the door bottom above the floor.

We started out with a 5" thick layered foam futon mattress from K-mart. It left a little to be desired so we added a 2" memory foam topper, and it works OK. Next time I want a good quality innerspring mattress and the ability to get it in and out of the Tear Drop. That's not asking too much is it?

I left a 6" space at the foot of the bed, very handy.

Our mattress is about 3" above the door opening and works for us.

We use a queen 8" memory foam we got from wally world. It is as comfortable as the Serta perfect sleeper we have at home.
The door is is 4" to the floor.
We have 14" between our feet and the cabinet.

I have a different set up.

I have a 65" wide interior and use 2, 32" wide, 4" thick "Junior Twin" foam mattresses.

I have a dropped floor and a table.

Since I almost always go by myself I put the one mattress on top of the other. In order to keep the table up.



With one mattress I have 15" clearance at my feet. Even with the double mattress cutting the space down to 11" I have no problems.

We started with 6" Grade A medium from Knox Foam, but the wife and I both have back problems and we just switched to a 5" Grade A Firm from knox foam and have not camped on it yet, but it shure feels nice to lay on!!

When camping I always use a minimum of 150mm foam mattress, any less & I hit the ground way to often for a good nites sleep. PS FWIW I weigh about 80kg
