Hi Dave,
There is still plenty of Ivan damage evident, especially when you know where to look. Things are getting back to normal but there is still an awful lot of rebuilding to be done. For a number of months there were piles of debris that looked like the foothills of the Smokies on every open space that would hold them, but they are mostly gone now. There are still plenty of trees and signs that have a Northwesterly lean (what we call an Ivan lean).
I am a retired National Park Ranger, but never worked @ Gulf Islands. Went to University in Mobile, so wife and I were familiar with this area and moved here when I retired. I have worked at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, NC; Everglades National Park; Cape Cod National Seashore, MA; Acadia National Park, ME, Amistad National Recreation Area, TX and Finally Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (The Arch) in St. Louis. I always figured it was harder to hit a moving target
