What length do you prefer ?

What length of teardrop or tiny camper do you prefer ? These lengths seem the most common but I sure there are other lengths used. If you can reply and say why you like a certain length that would be great.

I have to vote 10' I owned an 49 Kit 8' OAL and I couldn't fit into a 6' sleeping cabin...and I haven' gotten smaller since then....1980....I fit really well into the larger version that I built from Kuffel Creek...It was mostly a length issue, not girth, now it is both..6'2"..I'm scratching out plans for the next one...this winters project...probably longer than 10'...and wider...don't know if it'll be a 5 wide...For me I just build for the project.....just haven't decided on how much stuff I want to cram into it...Doug

I'm ashamed to say this but we have yet to stay the first night in a teardrop There is a Kit here in town (the first tear we have seen) and we laid down in it. It was a little short in the cabin but we could live with it but 48" is ok but wider is better for us anyway. We are starting our first tear now and we are building a 8 ft long 5 ft wide of our own design. We would most likely build a longer one if we had longer wood.

I have been doing some drawings and I have done a 8ft,9ft and 10ft and each has there own pluses and minuses and I was interested in what others think.

Mine will definitely be 10'. I know I'll never fit everything I want into 8' and 5 wide is a must with us. We sleep in a Cali king bed now and have tried the 4' thing in a van, we just tend to move around too much at night. Besides, a little extra room for the evening exercises is really nice!! Ya can't watch TV all the time.

We went with the 5x10 platform. Two adults and a dog require a bit of extra space in the cabin if you want to be able to turn over and stretch. We are able to store/carry that much more in the cabin, too. There's a small cabinet at the front and a bit of space at the feet. The extra width in the galley has also come in very handy. The 4x8 would be much nicer for towing and storing next to the house, though. Whatever you do, it's a package deal.

Dean sorry I did not put 11 ft as a choice and thanks for leaving your reply. 11ft would be very nice!

Its a shame that it is so hard to find beautiful 4x10 plywood. Thats why we are building a 8ft long tear but if we are able to build another it will be a 10ft long tear. Ain't we crazy we have not got the first one built and are already thing about the second.

I built mine 10', I would have done 8' but I needed a place for the dog to sleep - at the foot of the bed.

AndyH, same here. Length was determined by queen sized mattress plus width of dog bed (104").... should have gone to 10 feet, though...

Actually, have a plan (implementing next month) to cobble on a galley.... all planned, just need to take a traveling break to do it.

You could a hitch reciver on the back of the tear and get one the shelf type things that you see on SUV's and trucks and put a kitchen on it

My 8 footer is perfect for me with a 73" long mattress. Could have easily made the bed longer by moving the bottom bulkhead farther back but I instead chose to put a large 72 litre cooler in the galley.

The cooler could be kept in the back of the car/pickup and the space used for cabinets. Then, the bulkhead could be placed as far back as needed.

I'm building mine 10' long but am staying with 4' wide for economic reasons and also because my wife hates camping and will never see the inside of the thing anyway. It'll just be me and sometimes the dog - a little poodle...
