I have an external antenna on my aluminum roof held on with 3M VHB tape. I would like to remove it. Ideas?

I have an external antenna on my aluminum roof ...

Could you pull dental floss through it? A piece with loops on both ends to grab onto?

On a warm day or use a heat gun to warm things up, not cook them. An old worn putty knife or one that you've eased over the edges, (make sure there are no burs) and carefully work it under the antenna while pulling on the antenna, work your way around from different angles if need be.
I've done this on the painted surface of cars countless times, just take your time.

Thank you, Jasen and everyone. I want to report I did what Jasen describes in the post above, using a plastic putty knife on a warm afternoon. It worked better than I expected. There was a small amount of sticky residue left on the roof paint, but that came off easily with a paper towel and alcohol. There is no trace anymore that the antenna was ever there.

I just removed a round piece of plastic that had double sided tape on it from my dash.
I tried flossing it then used a plastic knife with teeth on it and forced it off the dash.
Tried to clean the residue off with a few things but lacquer thinner did the job without damage to the dash.
The plastic thing was to mount a Garmin and don’t need it since we have a bean bag mount that’s much easier to use.

I know it sounds a little unorthodox, but than again so does half the stuff that pours out of my brain case, but it does work well. Goof off or WD40 is good for getting the remaining residue off.

I used one of those eraser wheels to remove the 6" molding tape holding the stainless rocker panel kit on my truck, sure made it easy. Wish they had those wheels back when I was removing the decals from old police cars. We used heat guns, or the sun if we could, and safety razor blades we scrapped backwards on the polished concrete shop floor 3 or 4 times each side to dull them just a bit so they didn't cut into the paint easily.

I know this is an old thread, but just in case other people are having issues, I’ve done quite a bit of work with VHB tape for my sign businesses, the version I’ve used (there are a few different ones) is not difficult to remove if you can lift a corner. The strength in the bond is from the flexibility of the inner membrane rather than from the adhesive. Just lift a corner and pull it horizontally and the adhesive will release.
