Midget 2 Trailer

As promised, I have revised the Midget drawing on my site into the Midget 2.

This has an all-steel chassis and I've stolen Bob Kloppe's idea of replacing the fixed bed with an extending settee. This leaves space for a porta-pottie if wanted. All the geometry of the profile is shown.

One thing that turned up in this redesign is that, according to my estimate, the original Midget should be very light on hitch weight - I've moved the axle 4" rearward to allow some weight to be carried in the galley. I guess anyone who thinks of building this should speak to Bob Kloppe and find out how his turned out for balance.

Very nice Andrew!

Are flitch plates something you learned in the boat business? They sure help that joint out quite a bit!

Good placement of the WC!

And gee, that torsion axle looks familar!

Mike...

P.S. That's not your winter entry, is it?

The main problem I see with the design is that when the bed is pulled out you loose access to the porta-potty. Given that late-night is the time you're most likely to WANT the thing - it seems problematic to me. An option you could consider is bunk beds instead of a single wider bed. You could even have the upper bunk flip down to form the back of a couch (much like the fronts of bolers/scamps/casitas).

Mike,

The Midget really isn't high enough to have bunk beds and the upper bunk would be somewhat short anyway (due to the body shape).

Instead what you need is a really nice 'gazunda'* like this:

*Gazunda = goes under (the bed)...
