Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I have a jet ski trailer that is currently a 4 x 8 utility trailer. I am thinking about making a very traditional teardrop on it. As I am 6'4" long (laying down), I'm thinking about either having the galley base just be leg room, or at best open to facilitate mattress installation.

What i am interested in are your 4 x 8 teardrops, and how you handled the galley.

Hey Cliffy :

You are where I am at. I had started Rip van Winkle my 4x7 sleeper only trailer. I figure I'll toss in the first up and it will become the galley upon arrival. The 4x8's I have associated with at the gatherings have small galleys but find the occupants cooking on the picnic tables and elsewhere to gain elbow room. I have seriously been toying with a slide out floor for some added length and by screening in the back hatch to the floor area have a "screen porch feel on the nice camping days!

I always do my cooking outside the trailer, bot the galley has proven very useful for food prep. All I really need is a counter and a place for my knives and spices! :thumbsup:

The "Rip" looks like it will be fun. What's the speed rating on those tires? *" tires in Arizona are limited to 55 mph. Not fast enough for me!

My Jet Ski trailer has 8 inchers on it now, but I'm going to swap them with 12 inchers.

What are you worried about, you have 8 feet. Just make shorter cabinets or drawers in the foot area.

One thing I really like in my Weekender, is the sloping cabinet we use to read at night. It also supplies storage for our first aid kit, hiking shoes, and has a place for electrical connections. I want to duplicate that in the new one.

I am 6'1", with a 4 x 8 teardrop, and while I have no problems, another inch wouldn't hurt. I did not change the size of the galley, but I can see the advantage of just extending the bed area to the end of the galley, and put the countertop on top of it. Would give you a ton of length.

Cliff, I build super light weight and I keep it simple. 2 burner portable stove,Ice chest in Galley,Canned goods stored in totes..Full 8 feet inside under galley'trunk area, roll up sleeping bags and matress,etc.Shelf in front of galley(cabin area) for tv or dvd stereo etc..Extension cord with power strip if camping in an area with electric. kerosene lantern..Simple and clean and light...Danny
