Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Since its been to hot to camp-several family members and I loaded into my sisters van and took a scouting trip.

Here in central Alabama there seems to be a few Army corp built campgrounds. We went to one called Lock17, on the Black Warrior river. I don't think there is much to see and do in the general area and its pretty remote, but I was impressed by the facilities. Nice little rock bridges over a meandering stream in the camp, clean if not spotless bath house. The site layouts were very nice, nice old growth timber in the area. They had some sites with wooden decks built right up to the parking pad, overlooking the main body of the river-sit in a chair and fish right in front of your tear if you like.

Does anyone know of any other Army corp facilities that may be closer to places to see and things to do. From this one sample they appear to have quality in mind in these places. In my biased opinion a great way to spend our tax dollars

MC...a great place to look for Federal and State campgrounds (USACOE, FS, BLM etc.) is ReserveAmerica. They have listings for all the campgrounds, photos and amenities, and you can reserve your spot.

I routinely rent cabins up here in Alaska through this site for fly-in hunts and boat camping. Never had a problem.

Excellent info guys! I got a locally written book on Alabama oddeties(sp) a kind of bizarre roadside attractions guide, last Christmas. I'll have to cross reference some of those with this info and see what all I can take in and stay at these ACE locations.

When the Corp of Engineers built the lakes they also built some campgrounds at each one.

Another great place to camp is the TVA facility near Decatur, Alabama called the Mallard Creek Recreational Facility. It has a similar set-up. You can look at my album to see pictures of it if you are interested.
