Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hi All,

I was curious as to the process required to title/register a TTT in SC.

I know a trailer doesn't have to be titled or registered in the state, but I was wondering what needed to be done once the build is complete and the trailer becomes an RV/camper. Is an inspection and registration required, or do you just continue on untitled/unregistered. What about insurance?

It's amazing the things that come to mind once your scratch paper and dreams start to take form.

Brian, Don't know the answer to your question, but I registered the first Little Guy in SC. What a hassle, first they could not decide weather it was an RV or utility trailer. Then when the lady came out with a tag I'm thinking we got er done now, then she hit me with a cost of $112.00.
I told her I only wanted a trailer tag, not pay off the state debt. It was a permanent tag, no yearly property tax, no renewals, so I paid up. But back to your question, I'd call DMV. They'll give you the skinny

Thanks Bob. I appreciate the response. I live a stone's throw from the registry so I may just pop in on my next trip to the grocery store.

I don't know what happened to the DMV employees at that one day seminar they all had to attend in Columbia a couple of years ago, but they have definitely become a more kindly and friendly bunch and transactions in there are usually 15 minute affairs; unlike the half or full day torture sessions they once were.

I'm really looking forward to making a few gathering this year. If this weather starts to cooperate, I might get a chance to get started. I think I've finally managed to collect all the necessary pieces and parts. just need a few warmer days.

I built my Teardrop from ground up and registered it with DMV. Here is what I did, I finished the camper and made sure all of the lights and equipment worked properly. Then, I called the DMV and they sent someone to my house to inspect the Teardrop. After carefully inspecting the camper , she gave me a paper with the serial number which she required me to stamp into the frame. Made a trip to the DMV to pay for my tag and got my title and tag.

I really appreciate the help. I never heard of the DMV sending someone to your house, (except for the more nefarious types). That sure makes it easier. When you said stamped on the frame, did you mean that you have to actually inscribe a serial number into the metal? I guess that makes sense as far as having a permanent way to identify the trailer in case it's stolen or you sell it.
