More storage ?

Postby ERV » Fri Mar 13, 2009 7:03 pm

Was wondering what 2 small drawers mounted under the tear right by the door would look like. Was thinking 4" deep and 24x24. If you put one on each side, that would give you a lot more storage for the small stuff. And easy to get to. Guess the only thing would be to keep it dry. Erv

Sure would be easy access.

Click HERE. This guy built one on his Hybrid TT. Looks pretty neat.

That drawer is neat, how does he hold it the closed position?

I was thinking of making a box for the drawer to go in. The box would be hooked to the tear with the drawer in it. That would make it some-what water tight. To open, the front of the box would just drop down and you could pull the drawer out. With all the new drawer slides they have now it would almost be fully out so you could have good access to it. This is a link to more of his pics. Looks like he has a big trailer. Good ideas tho. But I can't tell how he keeps the water out. I think he takes his pictures at night. The lift-up lid is kinda cool. Would make spot to work on stuff too, pull out work bench. Erv
P.S. To heck with the little draw. I just went and looked at page 8 of Toms link. Thats what I'm going to build. Ha

If you were to make the drawer front a full overlay you would be able to gasket the front of the box or the lip of the drawer where it overlays the face of the box. Coat the box with cpes or even glass it and leak problems are gone. A couple sash locks or a pair of lockable draw hasps will keep everything in place until needed. This is a great idea glad you brought it up.

Thanks Bob, I always have ideas in my head. Those are good ideas to make it water tight. Might just have to go out to the shop and goof around a little today. Was going to go camping, but the youngest son is coming home from college, and you know how Moms are. He is up in Ann Arbor so it is a long time getting to see him. 3 hour drive from the house. Erv

Looks like the lid of the box sits down on this weatherstriping when closed...

Hi Spent the day in the drive working on the drawer. Tell me what you think. I'll try to get better pics, sun saw getting to low. The spare is still 2" lower. Made the box 6". Have not put a lock on it yet, just used two wing nuts for now. Erv

No problem!

You have a good idea there, Erv. I can see where we could use an under-trailer drawer, but I'm not asking for anything for a while. I've gotten a lot of sweat out of John since starting our build and don't want to push my luck.

Just show him the pics, you can blame me, Got enough wood left over to do the other side if I decide I like it. I didn't make a nice front for it yet. I was surprised how the black paint made it harder to see. The extra room is nice tho. If I make the other side I am going to use it for the electrical cords, ect. I looked at your album, he is doing a nice job. Looks like you will have a lot of room in there. Well better get out to the shop and clean up. Going to be cold again tonight. Erv

Well I looked at it this morning and it doesn't look to bad. Just have to make the front piece look a little better. Maybe round off the bottom of it. I will start on the other side tonight. Post some more pics when I get it done. Erv

:applause: Very nice drawers Erv, will add lots of space.
Are you building the drawers them self from scratch?
