SCOOOOOORE 62 Metzendorf

Postby greg755 » Fri Mar 06, 2009 5:24 pm

Just got this 62 Metzendorf today....

Been Bartering with the guy for 6 weeks now.

She is a little rough but I think she is unusual enough to save.

Blew out the tires on the way home so I had to have her roll backed to the service station where she got new tires and her bearings greased...

So now the only question is... Do I restore this one or the 74 Scotty.

Which one would you restore?

Greg-

The Metz is RARE

Tons of Scotties & Scotty fans

Sell the Scotty for a fair price & pour money into the Metz?

Cheers,

I'm with Coop, a Metz is rare.

And I have never seen a cab over.

Happy Trails

All the original interior, except the fridge was replace with a small 110 fridge. No paneling just the original blue paint.

All the cushions are original but are ripped, the table is in good shape but is pulled off the wall, has three beds, a sink, fridge, closet, all the hardware is there except the back tail light lenses.

The windows in front and back are broke - last week only the back were broke, darn kids, but they are an easy fix and one jalousie window is missing.

The skin is in good shape except the ding in the front and the back drivers side corner. Doesn't look as if to much water has gotten inside of her, but you know how that goes...

I will take some photos of the interior tomorrow when I remove all the junk he threw in there...

Len,
I have never seen a cab over either, but after bumping my head on it 3 times today I am fully aware of it now :?

I have seen a couple of Metzendorfs before but I decided on getting this because it had the cab over.

I also can get my hands on a 46 Spartan Modernair, REALLY bad shape, but the guy only want $200 for it and all the skin is there and all the original appliances, just got to figure out how to get it home, it wont fit on a roll back and my Ford Focus has already told "no how no way" ;)

I wonder if AAA  will pay for it???

Wow Greg! You got the fever bad!!! I might be a little prejudiced here, but I would restore the Metz if I were you. I've seen a few pictures of the cabovers before and always thought they were cool looking. That's a rare bird for sure. I'm gonna have to take a ride out to Seneca Falls some day soon and check out your trailers!

Great find on the Metz. I have been inside only one cab-over out here. I do ont recall the maker. Kenskill called them the X-model but I have only seen the ads, none in person. I would love ot have that extra storage space.
Was Metz an East Coast builder? I have only seen one out here that comes to the rallies.

Metzendorfs were built in Ohio. The original Amish built trailer! The name badge on mine says Phalanx Station, Ohio.

Have never seen one of the Metzendorf trailers but a friend living in Owasso. OK back in the early 1970's bought a used 'Swiss Colony' camp trailer that looked a lot like the one in Gregg's post. Googled Swiss colony but didn't find anything 'cept the last year of production was 1980?? Think that's the only 'cabover' I've ever seen in person.

If there were a better canned ham to pattern a standy trailer by, it would be the Metzendorf. Especially the model Rich Sheerin has. Love that trailer!
Rick, glad you decided not to sell it.
