big in the garage, not so big at the camp ground

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

big in the garage, not so big at the camp ground

Postby pohukai » Mon Jul 15, 2013 10:51 pm

We went camping for the second time in the teardrop. For the most part, it works fantastic. I mentioned to my wife that when the teardrop is parked in the garage, it seems big. However, at the camp grounds, it seems a lot smaller. We have plenty of room inside and the galley is fine; it just "looks" smaller at the camp ground than in the garage. Has anyone else seen this optical illusion with your camper?

Yes, it takes up more than half of the garage with the fenders. I keep a large bath towel covering the one fender so I don't scratch it as I squeeze by. I can barely open the dryer door - whoever thought having the laundry in the garage was nuts!!!!

But, get to the campground, in a campsite that a 36' RV can fit into, and I've got an itty bitty TD!!!! Until I get inside it to sleep. Then, it feels the same as in the garage.

We have a sorta’ reversed problem ... what looked small on paper turned out HUGE in the driveway ... forget garageable :o

Yup. The Glampette definitely looks larger in the garage than in the driveway and even smaller on the road or at a campground.

The other funny optical illusions are that it looks larger in photos on the outside (looks smaller in person) but the interior looks larger in person (smaller and more cramped in photos). Go figure.

It's all in perspective.

I was on the phone with the sister of a friend arranging a first meeting. She described herself... "I look like Frank. My hair is in a beehive. And I'm REAL tall."

me- "Well how tall are you?"

her- "Five two."

me- "HAH!! I'm five eight and I'm short"

her-"I'm taller than all my friends."

me- "I'm shorter than all my friends"

It's called the Tardis Effect.....smaller on the outside, larger on the inside... ;)

Happens with boats too, the cold water causes "shrinkage".

Well, when you have a garage that is big enough to fit a house, yep... :D I'd only need to widen the garage door, put some wheels under my house and I could roll it into my "garage". Yeah, the door is already tall enough. After putting the house in, I could turn it around and park it against the north wall, and proceed to park all my tractors, pickups, SUVs, and cars in there with it. Yeah, it was once a hay storage barn for a few hundred big bales. ;) It's now my big covered shop space, and parking lot. It was also sized large enough to bring a LARGE combine in to work on it. Before I got my house built I lived in a 16'x12' framed box that got lost along one side of the barn.

I hope this isn't too risque, but it has reference to size perspective and BBQ so here goes...

Wife told me this joke -

Guy and his wife are pulling weeds in the garden. Guy checks out wife's butt and says, "gee honey, your butt's looking kinda big". She ignores him.

They work on and he can't help but say, "my that is a big butt", she shoots him a cautionary look, but doesn't say anything.

They work on a bit and he says again, "deary I think your butt's gotten bigger, look here, it's as big as the BBQ grill!" She continues to ignore him.

Later, after they've had a chance to clean up and cool off, he's thinking back on the day and starts getting a little frisky. She turns to him and says, "if you think I'm going to fire this thing up for one little wiener, you've got another think coming!"

   :D ;)
