A/C clearance

Postby MikeyLikesIt » Tue Jul 16, 2013 10:01 pm

How much clearance should i have around my A/C? Right now i have 6" in the back and 4" on each side. The bottom is completely open.

The A/C only blows cool for about 5 minutes and then it's just warm air. It doesn't appear to be freezing up. Did i just get a dud A/C?

You need to separate the cool that goes thru the condenser from the hot air that exhausts out of it. The intake air comes in thru the sides and the hot exhaust goes out the back.

You should be able to use some foam walls to do the separation.

Also try to deflect the exhaust air away so the intake doesn't just suck it back in.

Pretty much this.

I vented mine out the bottom and made sure the two were as separate as I could make it. Works fine for me.

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

I'll give it an hour or 2 and check back.

After 90 minutes the temp read 84 degrees. I think this may have solved my problem. Thanks for all the input.

I'm going to let it run a few more hours and see if I can get it sleeping comfortable. The CRA is just around the corner and Indiana has been blazing this week!

Was that 6 hours with a human inside? We output quite a few watts of heat and a bit of humidity too. You'll also need a fresh air supply due to the small interior volume of the TD.

Do you have a separate fresh air intake and hot exhaust?

They are divided by a 2x4 that rests on my frame.
