You couldn't pay me enough to drive across the border these days.

We vacation in Puerta Vallarta at least every other year and have a great time, but I wouldn't be caught dead within a hundred miles of the US/Mexico border right now.

Oh, nothing serious. Just some minor drug trafficking, kidnapping, extortion, robbery and an occasional beheading. Typical Mexican hijinks.

Because 90% of the drug trade issues, shootings and abductions occur close to the border. The Mexican states adjacent to our border are just flat dangerous. I would stay our of Mexico City, too.

Here's a pretty fair breakdown of what it's like across our southern border.

And I have to say, I wouldn't camp anywhere south of the border. I wouldn't feel safe driving to anywhere in Mexico, honestly, because I would have to cross the no man's land at the border.

I used to have Copper Canyon on my bucket list. Not so much anymore.

Given the issues of drugs/ abductions and other crap that occurs...why take the chance? Are you willing to subject you / your vehicle and your families safety to the BS of a south of the border camping trip? Yeah...don't worry, the cops down there will look out for you...hee hee. I can see going across on foot...but why bother with the potential issues of a vehicle and trailer south? Maybe I'm a pussy on it all...however I've done nearly 40 countries a lot of them 3rd world and I wouldn't chance it now. You're gonna be a target to some people. Is Baja really that much of a destination that you can't find something else that might be rewarding? Do what'cha want... If something goes sideways...we will always have the story on the forum, if it gets posted...hopefully.

I agree with Doug & others 100%.
Been to Baja more times than I'd like to admit.
Didn't loose anything down there, so why go back.
Lots to see and do in the good ole' USA.

Now, having given the doom and gloom opinion of the Mexican border, I will also say that I own a timeshare in Mexico and plan to spend many more winter weeks in Cancun, Cabo and Puerta Vallarta. I won't be driving down there, though.
