Tires

Postby nuyork212 » Sun Jul 21, 2013 6:12 pm

Hello all

When I bought my teardrop it had the standard 12 inch tires.... Would it be pretty easy to go to 13 inch tires?

No harder than finding 13 inch wheels with the same boltpattern

Do some research and find out just how tall and wide a 13" would be in the size you want. Then check the wheel well clearance to see if you will still have some room for the springs to do their thing without the tire rubbing on top or sides of fenders if you make the switch. Make sure you get the same bolt pattern for the wheels, or you will end up changing out the hubs as well. Doug

I put 13 inch trailer rims and new tires on my Northern Tool 5x8 trailer without a problem.

Here is the glitch most often encountered with wanting to change the wheels...Alot of 12" wheels are on 4 bolt hubs. If you have 5 bolt hubs your change out will be fairly easy, as mentioned above. Most 4 bolt hubs have an spindle that is smaller in diameter than the ones used on 5 bolt hubs, thusthe bearings won't work. So changing them out is nearly impossible. Then You are faced with changing out the entire axle. Make sure you check your spindle and bearing sizes before you buy.
