Dogs in Teardrops

Hi

I know lots of you camp with your canine buddies but do any of your dogs ride in the teardrop between stops?

Any thoughts on the safety of this?

I think the answer is whether or not it's okay for you or a child to travel in a vehicle connected to the tow vehicle by a ball and couple of chains.
In my opinion any living thing deserves the same respect.

I plan on taking my dog with me, but I would NOT have her in my teardrop...just does not seem safe.

Mine rides up front with me. I would never tow her.

My beloved horses ride in a trailer, and I don't feel that they are in any more danger there than they would be anywhere else. I think that the real issue is the lack of communication between someone/something in the trailer and the driver. If there was an issue that needed attention in the trailer, there is not a way to notify the driver of the situation. I think that this is where the laws came about on having people in trailers and/or slide in campers.

My dogs are up front and happy with me. I once had a friend that had a high-sided, open-topped trailer and he had his mid-sized dog in back while he was driving down the interstate. A driver pulled up next to him and told him that his dog had just jumped out of the back of the trailer (while doing 70 mph). They stopped and walked a half a mile back, but no dog in site. Some days later, a shelter called him to say his dog had been turned in and he could come and get him. That dog had fur and skin rubbed off on every bone that projected from his body and was covered with scabs. It took months to heal, but he lived. I don't want my furry best friends to be subjected to any danger, ever.

I don't think our teardrops ride as smooth as a horse trailer, at least mine doesn't so I would never consider it. I just envision my furry buddy being bounced all around back there and not understanding what is going. Then puking all over my bed to get even with me. Furry friends up front here.

In the uk there are lots of dog trailer normally for multiple hounds going to shows or hunts.
I suppose it's personal choice

I ride a trike so up front is out of the question.

I supposed I posted the question because I am uncomfortable with the idea and wondered how others felt.

Do yourself a favor and have someone pull you around while you ride in the trailer before putting your dog in it. I think you will be surprised how much you bounce around back there. If your dog doesn't like the experience, then he won't want to go camping with you.

I would think a dog would be safer and more comfortable riding with you. You say you ride a trike - what kind? I would think it's possible to create a basket or something similar for the dog. Dogs love to have their noses in fresh air, I think your furry friend would be happy to ride with you!

That is an option Martin if accommodations can be made but it's not a big trike and there would need to be proper shelter if it was wet. She loves our convertible but the question arose as we see a lot of working dogs in purpose built trailers here in the UK.

Triker Jerry used to carry his dog in the trailer all the time as he and his wife were on the trike. He did Oregon down to Shasta in Ca. regularly. Doug

We had a couple of terriers that I oft times thought of putting in the trailer. One would howl if the speed went up too much which prompted the other to hump my arm.
All this howling and humping whilst hurtling down the highway was disconcerting and an impediment to our progress.
We kept them up front and accepted the fact that rapid progress of any sort would not be on the agenda.
