I presume that's a 4x8 piece of plywood. What thickness is it....and how much does it weigh? and after you routed it out.....what's the final weight??

Hey John,

The frame as you see it weighs about 11 pounds...

Plywood typically weighs about 25 pounds per 1/4" of thickness, so the starting weight was probably around 50 pounds.

As for how long is a "bit"? Usually not long unless you forget about it, then it can be years and years!!!

Yes, that's a sacrificial board, and my cnc software lets me put tabs on the part so it doesn't go flying when it's cut out!

Mike , would I be wrong in thinking if you cut out a foam sheet (3/4") on the CNC, same program, the foam dropouts would fit exact in the plywood cutouts...???

You would have to allow for the cutter diameter by following the other side of the line, but since the hard part is getting the line in there in the first place, that should be relatively easy.

KC is right, your bit would have to be on the other side of the line. But the short answer is, yes, you can use the same geometry to generate your toolpath.

You should be able to just change the bit offset from left to right or right to left depending on how it's coded.

just thinking ... This frame filled with foam ,a roof, a layer of 3/4" foam on the outside (or whatever) and a covering (canvas, fiberglass, etc. ...) Instant TD !!! ... Light, insulated, and the wood is encapsulated for protection ...

Mike , I don’t know if this applies, but could you cut recesses/pockets in the frame to accept cross members ...1” X 2” s for the roof ... ? Maybe 3/4 the depth of the ply... so they wouldn’t show on the outside ... ? Would make assembly Quick work ...
