Wisconsin Teardrop

Postby drock73 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 10:16 am

While I am new to this site, I am not necessarily new to teardrops. My wife and I have had this teardrop since around 2008. It was made by TC Teardrops and then customized by my wife and I. Oh, I should also add my mother-in-law (curtains and pillows). We have taken it to Yellowstone and also to Pennsylvania. Headed back through Canada to come home. Have a bunch of smaller trips planned this year and looking forward to the season.

So what side of the lake are you on? I was born in Oshkosh but now live south of Milwaukee in Burlington. Got two brothers with second homes over in Stockbridge. My cottage is over in Wild Rose so we are very familiar with the area.

If you are looking for an opportunity to meet other teardroppers I am organizing this year's Cooler by the Lake on it's traditional last weekend in April date. It's held at Andrae Kohler State Park just south of Sheboygan. The thread can be found here.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57806

If you want to travel the following weekend is Mille Lacs Kathio State Park 2-4 May 2014 in Minnesota. Tim McGinty puts on some great events and is co-director along with Betsey who organizes the St. Croix Chapter of Tear Jerkers.

Welcome and what took you so long to make yourself known? :D Looks like you have yourself a very nice set-up.

One nice thing about going to gathering is seeing how others set up their trailers. I ideas you will go home with will make your camping just that much nicer. Don't forget to go over to tearjerks.com and check out the LOL (Land of Lincoln) gathering as well as the St. Croix chapter. Most of LOL gathering are in the northern part of the state and are fairly easy to get to.

Like you we travel a lot in the summer. Heading to Maine sometime this summer.

Gary,

Thank you for the warm welcome. I just looked at the calendar and looks like we should be able to make it to Cooler by the Lake. Well at least Friday night through Sunday. What site would you recommend of the ones that are left?

I always like to see everyone else's trailers and see how they have made it their own. I have some alterations I am looking to do before the season starts. Always fun to work on the camper.

drock73,

14 is right to the south of the bathrooms but has no trees. 39 has a really big evergreen that blocks most of the view of the bathrooms and provides easy access to everything. 87 is in the second loop but has a 20 foot maintained path and you will feel as if you are right there with everyone. 21 is nicely wooded and may feel the most like camping where some of the others feel more like a park. There are pictures of the sights when you use Reserve America.

http://wisconsinstateparks.reserveameri ... kCode=kohl

I would pick one of these but I am not really sure which one. If I were not trying to be centrally located I would probably try to be in 17 or 19.

If you haven't seen any pictures from last year there are several here;

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53816&start=150

If looking at the scrolly pictures drives you crazy just click on them and they stay big.

Mine is the red VW Sportwagen. In the center picture you can see a orangish tent top on a yellowish tent. That might be 87. If you look at woodbutcher's picture you will see Glenn's big tear. He is one site south of 14. Like I said 14 has no trees. That big group of trees over the top of Glenn is just about where 39 would be. gdpipkorn's picture of the picnic table is probably site 19. No mowed grass and to me feels a little more like camping in that area.

Whatever you chose you will like.

Welcome from another Wisconsin TCteardrop owner! I've seen the three older photos of your trailer on TCT's Flicker page and really like the changes you've made, especially the wainscoting style paneling on the inside walls and galley. Very nice décor and trims. Absolutely love the white walled tires, red painted rims and baby moons. Your TCT looks to be a 4 X 8?

Hope to see you at the "Cooler by the Lake" gathering this year. Bob and I will be at site 88.

Looking forward to meeting you at Cooler drock73. Glad you have decided and are able to join us

Again, you will like almost everyone of the sites. There is not a bad one with the differences that will make one better than another being mainly based on personal taste.

Your going to meet a lot different people who all have teardrops and camping as an interest. A second prevalent interest among many is dutch oven cooking for the Saturday night pot luck. I'm guessing 1/3 will try to prepare some food that way. I will. It can be addicting. Go to one of the bigger gatherings like IRG in California or Cross Roads in Indiana and there will be an amazing amount of Dutch Oven cooking.

Happy Trails

Sounds great. I will put you on the Cooler list. Keep checking it out especially about a month before as we make more of our food plans.

Your going to have a great time even if this snow continues to July. :x :x

Hi Gary and Cheri,
Welcome to the site. Nice looking TD and it sounds like you two are not letting the grass grow under your tires!

Hope to see you on the road ... I snowbird to the southwest and am slowly moving to Minnesota so the wife can be closer to the grand- (and great)-kids :shock: As soon as I can get the house finished and sold in Phoenix, I hope to spend more time on the road -- I am re-gearing my old blazer and adding a removable roof-wing to max my mileage! I have this terrible allergy to cold and have to get away when the temps drop below a sensible 60 degree daytime high!! ;)

Happy trails....
Happy Camping & Building,
John (JC)

I might be overlooking something, but I have been searching for a calendar of planned outings for Wisconsin. If someone could point me in the right direction and provide a link I would appreciate it.

AZ_Desert_Rat looks like you might have confused me with Gary and Cheri. The teardrop pictured is mine (Dan and Jenny or drock73). I am starting to get the itch to get away from the cold as well. Debating to move to a year-long warmer climate.

drock73,

You are a part of the St. Croix Chapter of Tearjerkers and can find a listing of events being discussed here;

http://www.tearjerkers.net/new_forum/viewforum.php?f=37

Betsey usually has a complete listing of the years events but I see she hasn't had time to revise the list from 2013 yet
(Edit) My mistake, Betsey is on top of everything but changing the year in the title. The 2014 schedule is here :lol: :

http://www.tearjerkers.net/new_forum/vi ... =37&t=1301

You will also want to know what is happening just to the south of us in the Land Of Lincoln Chapter of Tearjerkers their events are listed under their announcements here;

http://www.tearjerkers.net/new_forum/viewforum.php?f=48

The Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers is more of a builders forum while Tearjerkers seems more of a camping event forum. Obviously there is some crossover. This is my third time as acting as the contact person for Cooler and it's eighth time as an event. The biggest reason Cooler is listed on the Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers is that this is where it has always been listed in the past and where people expect to find it.
